1996 dodge caravan 2.4 liter 4 cylinders .Engine service light comes on for a period of 2 to 3 months then goes off .Prior to this the engine light stayed on continuously ,until the oxygen sensor connected...

There is some sort of diagnostic code stored in either the ECM(engine computer) or TCM(transmission computer). There are many sensors and solenoids and other data parameters that can cause a codes to set other than just the oxygen sensors. You will need to have the code(s) pulled to know where to start.

1996 dodge caravan 2.4 liter battery light comes on what is the cause ?

Usually a failing alternator. Check voltage at the battery with engine running. Should be at least 14 volts. If less or you don't have a voltmeter, take alternator off and have it tested at the parts chain. Let me know if you need instructions for removing the alternator or have more questions.
