2003 Chevrolet Avalanche Logo
Posted on Sep 25, 2017

I have low oil pressure in my 2003 Avalanche, already changed the sensor, the oil, the oil filter and messured with a mechanical device. Engine makes no unusual noises what so ever, drives like new, has 130k miles on it. Is it the oil pump and if so is it a big job to change it? Do I have to remove the waterpump? Thanks, Mart, Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

SOURCE: In my 2003 Chevy Avalanche the oil pressure gauge

the sensor is located at the back of the top of the engine, behind the distributor. Could be the sensor or the gauge itself. Probably the sensor stuck.

SOURCE: WATER LEAK AT SHAFT OF WATERPUMP , BIG JOB TO

Not too bad,you have to remove fan,to get the water pump mounting bolts.take off the belt, remove the pump. Some people remove the radiator for more room ,this no big deal, just remove the top 2 bolts, remove upper, lower hoses, pull the fan cover off.You don't put RTV on gasket, also there's an small o ring that has to be replace, behind the pump.

SOURCE: How big of a job is this? Several hours? or 1 or

No, but you are half way or more, so why not?. Why not, It wold be a shame to have to tear into it again in a few thousand miles. They should be changed at 60,000 miles. A couple of hours. But really you are alresdy paying for the water pump labor sop another hour on the belt maybe.

SOURCE: low oil pressure after engine warms up in 94 blazer with 4.3

I have a 99 blazer and ever since I have owned it, it reads lower in pressure when idling, but will go up too 40 while driving. This is normal for the vehicle. If the pressure gets real low, and stays low, it means its time for an oil change.

As long as the pressure goes up when you give it gas, it is fine.

Testimonial: "But why has it started reading low, especialy after the new oil pump was put on. It read a constant 40 even when idling before."

How do I change the oil pressure sensor on 2007 Avalance

On both the V6 and V8 engines the Oil Sensor is located on top of the engine at the rear. You will need to remove the top of the intake manifold to get to it.

Oil pressure

A mechanic would check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge by taking out the sensor. Could be a problem with the gauge in the cluster.

I have a 2007 chevrolet avalanche LT and everytime im driving it after a couple kms it will say low oil pressure turn off engine????

Hello: What weight oil is in the engine? How many miles since last oil change? How many miles on truck? The first thing you could do is replace the oil pressure sensor. You will have to remove the intake manifold to gain access to the oil pressure sensor. If the engine is not knocking or there isn't any valve train noise then it could be the oil pressure sensor when this message is displayed.

My 2007 avalanche say oil pressure low turn off engine. Could the be the sensor

Checked oil level first right? May need to replace sensor or have a shop check the pressure with a mechanical gauge.. Best not drive it. If it's lost oil pressure, you could severely damage it by driving with no oil pressure.

My oil pressure gauge is bouncing all around on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche. It bounces from the low end to the high end and everywhere in between. Any idea what might be causing this?

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor. Thatt is the easiest thing to change. If not its the gauge. Put voltage to the wires from the switch and see if the gauge stops jumping and stays pegged, if it does its the switch Good luck
