I have a 2005 vw beetle, and the convertible top won't close when I press the button; the light above the rear view mirror just blinks when I do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi there.
Can anybody help me.
I have a problem with my vw golf convertible 1997.
The top will not open or close,
I can hear the motor going but nothing will work.
There is enough fluid for the top to work.
Please help me please.
Hi, same problem here. I've take it to VW twice for this issue, just before the warranty expired, then just after it expired it happened again. Taking it in on friday, its very frustrating, i've had the hydraulic pump replaced and several micro-switches.
hello, I just bought an 05 convertible beetle for my wife. On the drive home she decided it was to chilly to have the top down. The top would not close so I checked the owners manual and it said to do the following; to manualy close the top there is a large grommet or plastic cover located in the trunk on the drivers side adjacent to the tail light. Pry the plastic cover off and turn the hydraulic pump screw counterclockwise until it stops to relieve hydraulic pressure. Now, just behind the drivers door where you can see the arms and linkage that open and close the top you will see a red cord, apply downward pressure on the top and pull the cord up to release the locking hook. This process has to be repeated on the passengers side as well. Now you can push the top up manualy and close it. Dont forget to close the hydraulic valve in the trunk after the top has been closed. Hope this helps.
After trying to close my top for over 30 minutes....I simply opened and closed all the windows, a few times repeatedly, and the top closed...what a relief!!!!...Hope it helps another frustrated new VW bug owner out there :-) Also for anyone in the Delmarva area who has had their rear window fall out of the soft top casing...Delmarva Autoglass in Salisbury, MD has a guy that reattaches the rear window in convertibles very inexpensively. Good luck All!
Stephanie202 This worked for me perfectly!!
Amazing - this worked ... such a crazy quirk and never would have thought of this! Was pulling my hair out and our mechanic was at a loss too. Thanks very much for posting - 10 years later - ha!

Usually answered in minutes!
this just happened to mine, no warning signs. 2005.
lowering it as per usual, it stopped before the locking down clicks in. chimes, flashing lights, etc.
still trying to figure out the manual process for raising it. switch does not make a noise for up or down position.
Hello...same issue for me...goes down, but not all the way...won't come back up until I've turned the car off a couple of times....then works fine..scared to death to put the top down for fear of it happening where I can't lock up the car...frustrating..forces you to go to the dealer...If I get tips, I'll forward! I don't see a way to do manually AT ALL!
Maybe there is a recall...checking VW directly!
