Subaru EJ20 non turbo very flat spot under 2,500rpm, funny sounding exhaust, however performance ok after 3,000rpm upwards so not blocked exhaust, emissions normal in every respect, suspect knock sensor or sounds like timing out. On scanner, when throttle advances, timing appears to ******?/? would this suggest knock sensor - subaru says they have a funny "air fuel ratio meter" which looks like another oxygen sensor in front of the traditional oxygen sensor which gives a lot of troubles so could be another possible avenue, any advice?
Thanks for that, but the fact that the car is running fine in upper RPM suggests normal breathing, however we did already pull cam covers off & check cam timing & for wear in the keyway/ stretch in cam belt etc... this car has really confused me. ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO REDUCE THE SPARK ADVANCE AS YOU APPLY THROTTLE - I thought it was the other way around hence why I thought maybe knock sensor is reducing / r.e.tard.ing it.Thanks for that, but the fact that the car is running fine in upper RPM suggests normal breathing, however we did already pull cam covers off & check cam timing & for wear in the keyway/ stretch in cam belt etc... this car has really confused me. Yup Subaru seem to think the 'air fuel sensor' which is the device in front of the o2 sensor that looks like another o2 sensor but apparently causes this type of problem - I've never in my life heard of that before considering all the emissions measure bang on, but hey I guess its my next best try.Yup Subaru seem to think the 'air fuel sensor' which is the device in front of the o2 sensor that looks like another o2 sensor but apparently causes this type of problem - I've never in my life heard of that before considering all the emissions measure bang on, but hey I guess its my next best try.

I would suspect a bent valve or two when the belt snapped. Verify the belt installation is correct and the timing marks line up. Do a compression test. If a valve is bent, the head has to come off and the valve(s) replaced.
Could be alot of things... when was last tune up? You might consider having a free OBII scan (fault scan) done at any good parts store to pull fault codes from cars computer - it sounds like a TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) but have scan done so you're not throwing parts at it.
impreza 98 ej20 turbo automatic / losing power /when u mash d x car moves off slow then u feel like it want to go.// runs very good on first start // when car warms up problem starts // may drive ok sometimes during d day .. all sensors are ok could it b a wiring problen? PLEASE HELP ME
Yes they will bolt in. Make sure you have the sensors matched. You might have to do some playing with the computer to make it all work properly. Good luck and have a great day.
If your havinf any trouble I suggest you can pick up a repair manual from any part store and if you feel like spending around $26 you can get alldata online for you car for a year I just did it for some wiring diagrams and it helped me out bigtime good luck
