your AIC sensor that decides on how much idle your engine needs is stuck of dirt. It is appropriately engage by reading the heat temp of the coolant and respond accordingly as programmed in the eco. try to clean it must be attached on the throttle body help by two bolts. clean the water inlets/outlets too so that the sensor will be able to get an accurate reading of the coolant temperature. the normal idle rpm is 700-800 range.

Hi have a nice day!
Your model is equipped with Vehicle Speed Sensor System.
I think it would be better to take it to an authorized service station to check it's operation.

A faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is what causes the loss of power in a climb of a grade. Replace the EGR valve and you'll be fine.

RPM's go high when driving but then go back to normal

What you are describing sounds normal. RPM's stand for revolutions per minute. Each minute your engine is running, the pistons are going up and down. When you are not going anywhere, your engine is idling and so the RPM's should NOT be very high. However, when you race up a hill, your RPM's SHOULD be high because your engine has to work hard to climb the hill or to go fast.
Idle speed= 650 Revolutions Per Minute. That means your engine cylinders each work 650 times in One minute.
At freeway speeds, your engine will revolve somewhere between 1600 and 2100 times per minute. I hope that helps.

Chevy Malibu Cold Idle Problem

Check the water coolant thermostat. If it is stuck in the "open" position you are heating up all the water in the coolant system and this will take time. The thermostat keeps the water in the engine until warmed up to almost normal running temperature, only then does it allow the coolant to enter the radiator.

RPM run high and slow to drop down

There could be two problems i can think of here. First would be a computer problem. The computer might be telling the car to run at a high speed. A problem like this might be fixable from your local garage. A problem like this could be expensive. Second, as engines age, they natually tend to idle higher. This is a normal occurance. This is accompanied by a decrease of gas mileage. For me, i went from normal 26mpg down to around 22mpg. A problem like this can be fixed by using fuel additives aimed at high mileage cars. I have used fuel injector cleaners, and that has brought my car back to her glorydays of 1996. I hope this helps, if not let me know.

hi, i would say the automatic choke spring broke, this is what controls the cars idle at cold and hot engine tempatures. if it's broke it is no longer able to automaticly regulate the rpm's the for making it idle at hi rpm. hope this could help you.
