Audi Fuel Pump

I own a 1998 Audi A6 Quattro Sedan with a V6 2.8L capacity engine. My Fuel_pump gave way a few days ago and the car hasn't moved since. Everytime I change the Fuel pump, and test it, it works for about 20 Min., develops a high keening noise and quits. Then it won't start again. Anybody have any ideas?

I double checked the terminals and it appears all is fine from that end. I'm not sure where the relay for the fuel pump is located. Could anybody please point out the exact location and if possible, some instructions for how to access and or test it. I've had problems with people trying to pull out panels in the past and breaking clips in the process.

The fuel pump relay switch on a 1998 A6 is under the driver side under the dash it is either listed as 20 or 10 if you look up the fuel pump relay searching in parts you will see what it looks like. good luck

Is it fitted correctly? If it is not fitted correctly it will do this. Have you checked the relay?

Can someone tell me where the fuse for the fuel pump is place on Audi A6 2.8 QUATTRO 1998

In the fuse box on the drivers said dash facing the driver door. The relay for the fuel pump is inside the dash on the drivers side left of the steering wheel. You have to take the panel off to get to it but it's only 3 screws and pretty simple to do.

Starting problem on my audi a6 2.8 quattro,,, i need help

Sounds like the gas presser valve or weak fuel pump. When it dose it again turn the switch on and leave it on for about 3 mins. and see if it will start. If it dose I would say the pump is weak.

Oil Warning light.

I would take it to the dealer immediately. This could indicate a serious oil pump problem. It may be nothing, but if your oil pump goes out, your engine will lock up; and that means you'll, at best, be repairing major parts. At worst, you'll be buying a new car!
