Tie rods are a part of the overall front end allignment.... if they are worn , a good shop will require you to have them serviced prior to do9ing an allignment...
Yes... you will need an allignment after yout tie rod ends have been replaced.

Frontend work like tired rod n idler arms repair. But your tires still wearin out. What else can cause that?

Bent spindle, bent shock/strut or a bent control arm. Did you get an alignment dont when you replace the F/end stuff?

Tie rods on front wheels need replacing, also need 2 new front tires. Can I have the front tires installed and then put the new tie rods on at home?

Depends on how far your drive is to home, if the tie rods are that bad to make the tires wear then i would only drive it a short distance. Tie rods control inward and outward positions of tire if looking at front of vehicle called (Toe) . When driving strat and a tie rod is damaged or defective and tires ares point in or out all your doing is dragging the tire down the road.

I just replaced the inner an outer tierod ends.the steering wont turn back after u make a turn

You need a frontend alignment. If you took off the entire tierod you may have hung the rod backwards and it is catching. When you unscrew the ends you are suppose to count the twists and then replace the ends with the same amount of twists.

If the rod is too long or too short now it will put the tires in a position that is not aligned. You can align this temporarily by straightening the wheel so the tires are parallel. Then measure the inside of the rim so that the BACK of the rims are about 3/8 of a inch wider than the BACK of the rims in the front of the tire. The tires are suppose to travel knob kneed about 3/8" toe-in.

Just replaced tie end rods and on the way home begin to hear this humming when turning the steering wheel and a strange rubber smell. What can it be?

It could be several things. If the steering is out of alignment the steering pump could be working all of the time. You could have the steering pump seizing and causing the serpetine belt to burn up.

Or if your front tires are seriously out of alignment they are dogwalking and you are cutting new wear patterns on the tires. You can look at the tires and see if they are getting wear rings. The rubber on the tire would be the smell.

If you counted the number of twists on each tierod end when you removed and replaced them you should be close. If not, you need a frontend alignment or a 4 wheel alignment if the rear parts are adjustable. By doing the tierod ends yourself you saved money, but the alignment would have to be done no matter who did the work.

1995 Ford Crown Victoria - shakes/vibrates @ highway speeds.

Alignment has alot to do with the tires not shimmying.. Like zero toe setting. Loose componants like tie rod ends and the idler ar worn. You can ck for excess front end play by holding the front and back of the wheel and pushing and pulling on it, like rocking it. OR have someone rock the steering while you watch where the play is from underneath. By rocking I mean turn the steering wheel back and forth. Look at all th joints and pivot points for excess play, which is, movement not immediate to the rest of the steering system. Tire balance is very important. Wheel hop is a sign of a bad tire and it overtaxes the shock absorber. Shocks don't cause shimmy because they are a vertical movement controlA shimmy is lateral or side to side.Wheel balance weights must be spit. If a 2 oz. weight is needed to balance the tire, Oe once should be on the inside of the wheel and one ounce on the outside directly across from each outher.. Loose wheel brgs will cause shimmy, but they would not last long. Caster setting on the wheel alignment will also cause shimmy. Like on a shopping car. too much caster causes the wheel to start fluttering and is very hard on other componants. This may be why you have worn tie rod ends and a bad pitman arm. Worn control arm bushings and ball joints directly affect titre wear and can only be feltwhen the front end hits a dip and detected by side wear on the tire edges. Summary: replace the tie rod end and have the car aligned. Good Luck, -Ned_ sorry about the book

I have a 1986 chevy s10 blazer 4x4 with the 2.8 motor...When I reach between 60 and 65 mph. the blazer shakes real bad. I replaced both front axle shafts, inner and outer tie rods and sleeves. It has new...

Have you checked the U-joints in the rear drive shaft? Also did this happen before the tires were replaced? Take the truck back to where you got the tires and have them check the balance, they should do this for free.
