    My 97 is white smoking, and acts like it is running on 5 cylinders. It has lost major H.P. Also it has lost about 7 MPG. What could this be?

Check fuel pressure at regulator, should be 40-50psi, could be mechanical fuel pump. go to ford and/or international truck service dealer, they have fuel pressure tester.
my 97 F250 acted same way, would white smoke on highway, was mechanical fuel pump not providing enough fuel to injectors.

Tighten all fuel connections from filter to injector pump to injectors because if air is allowed in (between pressure pulses) then power loss will occur.

1994 Ford Ranger Starts runs for 3-4 minutes then dies, changed ignition mod, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay,checked vac hoses, totally lost!!!!!

As with any no-start or stall problem you will need to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition issue.
The high idle usually means you have a vac leak or a problem with the throttle body or idle air control valve. The control valve is how the computer controls the idle speed.
You'll need to watch the fuel system and spark to see which is being affected when the engine dies.
You might want to hook a test light up to the coil to see if it is loosing voltage for example.

I have a 1996 mercury mystique with a 2 liter and the car idles high and when i put it in gear it idles low and dies...i have changed the throttle positioning sensor, idle air control valve, mass air flow...

Wow you change everything, TPS was right thing to do and so is the Idle air control,and MAF and EGR, fuel pressure, So it idles high then some one tried to defeat the stall in gear? Even if there is a vacuum leak creating high idle it shouldnt stall in gear, , What color is the transmission fluid? when in gear in drive step on the acelerator pedal to maintain idle to prevent car from stalling. Just enough to maintain let say 1100RPM. Is there a vibration? I mean a torque convertor vibration. Torque convertor stall are common an GM and Nissan,very rare do I ever see it on Ford. I really belive the IAC is not getting power and is just been adjusted manually, cause I know its not the transmission, At idle in gear pull the plug on the idle Air control does it change in idle setting? If it doesnt change in Idle setting the adjustment that was use to control the setting lower the idle to its normal setting. Plug the idle air control in then.The idle air should change the setting. If it doesnt its not getting the signal it should.

I have a 93 f150 with a 5.8 liter motor. It started idling real low and sometimes dies out. Usually dies when I shift from drive to reverse or vice vesa.

Check the linkage for loose connection.

Check carpet or anything that can keep idle incorrectly.

====
When engine is cold,use 1/2 can of carburetor to clean out the interior.
====
Check your service record for the last catalytic converter replacement

If you has your last smog check report handy then look for the Nox reading. If it's on the high side then your catalytic may need replacement.
====
Take a long drive (high rpm if possible) to clear out the carbon on the cylinder heads.
