Im not getting fire on my 2001 jeep cherokee. coil rail is good and the cam position sensor is new and still no fire. im getting fuel but i think there is no fire. any idea as to what im overlooking? jeep has 148,389miles and was parked one night . when we came out to start it the next day all it does is crank over but no start. have checked for fire , fuel , and all connections. they all seem good! have put new cam position sensor, and checked the coil rail (seems good), and also checked to see if the cam shaft is turning (it is). the jeep is very well maintained and is not for off road. so it is not run hard. it just was parked one day and never would start the next. all things point to the pcm going bad and if this is the case . do you have to reprogram the replacement pcm before it will work? and if so how can this be done? also could there also be a problem with the ignition switch that could be causing this?

If no spark at the plugs, engine cranking, did you check primary voltage at the coil assemble, dark green wire with orange tracer, engine cranking, use a test lite on the wire check for voltage. If no voltage that will lead back to asd relay. There are some fuses involved. I believe the computer has to see both the cam and crank sensor signals or it won't ground the asd relay. All I can do is make testing suggesting.

SOURCE: 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee no start

I just fixed the problem with the 96.

Crank no start
No fuel pressure
No spark
No volt gauge and no fuel gauge
No scanner obd working when hooked up says error no communication. With the help of this awesome guy randy from washington, i did some relay jumping, more wire tracing and found it was the crank sensor was shorting out with just the key on. with key on, locate the crank sensor behind the valve cover, unplug it and see if everything comes back on, this is what it did for me. Thanks again randy for the help and this gentleman can be reached @ http://www.aceautomotive1.com.

Check spark to plugs. Possible crankshaft position sensor. Located at rear of engine between engine and trans.

SOURCE: where is the pcm on 1997 jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl?

I don't think the PCM is your problem, is the check engine light on? It could be you idle air control motor this is located on the throttle body, but because this happens while driving I am thinking you will need to replace your crank shaft position sensor it is located on the transmissinon bell housing it is very hard to replace without the correct tools. If the check engine light is on take it to a local auto parts store and ask if they can check the check engine codes for you they usally will do this for free.

SOURCE: 1998 jeep cherokee no start seems that pcm is not

I had a similar problem with my 98 Cherokee and after a month in the shop, it turned out to be a short in the wiring harness.

Misfire on 2 and 5

Hi Paula,

You didn't mention if you changed the plug wires.

You mentioned replacing the camshaft sensor. Have you checked the Crankshaft Position Sensor? Or the Mass Air Flow Sensor (may need cleaning)? Or the Throttle Position Sensor?

93 Jeep Cherokee has very weak spark from the coil and will not start

You are correct in your understanding. If the coil has at least 12 volts and gets a ground signal from the computer, the coil should fire. The coil actually sparks when the ground is removed.
The cam and crank sensors tell the computer when the cylinders are at top dead center which also opens the injectors.
Have you checked to see if you have battery voltage at the coil, and tried another coil ?

My 1997 jeep grand cherokee limited died on the road now it wont start back battery is still good it seems like its out of gad but there is gas in the tank

If you can hear the pump running inside the tank right after it stalls and you turn the key to the run position, I'd be looking at the crank position sensor. If that fails, fuel will reach the fuel rail but the injectors won't fire. Also check cam sensor, pump relay and ASD relay in power distribution center.

1993 jeep grand cherokee put new sencor on, new fuel pump, new relay, coil pack and still is'nt getting any fire from coil. it just keeps cranking.

Crank position sensor mosly likey. Seems like you wasted a lot of money on unnessary parts. Crank sensor should cost about $40

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee No Start

I would be thinking that there is a good chance that you need to be checking out replacing the computer, if you aren't getting any communication with the proper scan tool then the computer isn't communicating with anything in the vehicle...... I would have guessed first off that the ignition control module might be bad but that is obviously part of the computer also, I would be looking in that direction.

you may have bent the flex plate ring.so it might be to far away from the crank sensor air gap.
