I hav a 93 golf 3 gti 2l 8v <2e engine>. 3 months ago the sprocket at the end of the crankshaft broke. replaced it and set timing at 6 degrees. did diagnostics and ams, knock sensor and temp sensor came up as faults. adjusted ams, replaced temp sensor and knock sensor. then added injector cleaner, engine and radiator flush, left to idle then did full service. car ran fine for a month and now it stalls after 15min of driving but doesnt cut off. so wile idling i advance timing on distributor and without turning car off i manage to drive for 15min until it stalls again. when i try to give petrol it pulls back and backfires and has a missing sound. now i when it stalls i turn off, leave 4 30sec and start. goes 100% till 15min again. tried leaving idling for 2hrs at 2000rpms but never stalls. only when driving. cleaned throttle body ,adjusted ams and co reading still nothing. please help. email me on [email protected]. desperate. vw agents cant find fault. am at a loss.

SOURCE: golf gti 2.0L 8v

my first solution would be to check all the timing is set up properly and you will probably find that the distributor is not timed up right

SOURCE: Temperature warning light coming on,on a 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTI

The thermostat will show what the guage shows. the seal on the coolent bottle can be checked for tightness. so it could be a faulty sensor?

SOURCE: oil around 1 spark plug well.

this could simply mean that too much oil has been added and overflowed on to the engine.if the vehicule runs well and is not noisy i would not worry about it. the spark plugs should be inspected to make sure they are seating properly.always start the threading of the plug to the head by hand.

I drive a 1997 golf 3 GTI 16V. The car can't start when the oil temperature goes beyond 88 degrees celsius from the onboard computer, I have to wait for it to cool down for a while before starting. What...

Did you resolve this?
I drive a mk3 golf GTI 8V and mine starts fine but after driving for about 3 minutes (engine warms up) it starts to misfire, the car stalls and then you can't start it again until the engine has cooled. Does this sound similar?

Timing marks and how to set timing on toyota corrolla 1994 canm belt snapped and need to replace

Both 7afe and 4afe (engines for 93-97 Corollas) are non-interference engines. It's highly unlikely there is any damage to the valves.

slide a straw or a pen into the plug hole and slowly rotate crank pully back and forward and note the rise and fall of the straw this will indicate TDC . once TDC is achieved note the mark on the pully should be alighn with a mark on the timming case .rotor button to number one lead will have you on compression stroke .cheers MAL

Oil around 1 spark plug well.

More than likely you have a leaking valve cover gastet. Not a head gasket.
