Transmission will not shift into 4th gear and the OD button isn't turning a light on in the instrument cluster. The car only has 67,000 miles on it. I had the car scanned for codes and here's the list; P0708- trans range sensor circuit high input P0743- Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit electrical P1703- no data on scanner P0733- Gear 3 incorrect ratio P0732- Gear 2 incorrect ratio P0717- turbine/input shaft speed sensor circuit no signal So I am at an absolute loss at the moment as to what to start looking at. I've checked all the sensors and everything plugged in and from what I can tell grounded where needed. Removed and opened the tcm this evening to see if any parts of the circuit board were fried and again no problems found. I don't know what the next step is so if someone would offer advice please let me know. Thanks, Jay

the service manual covers all that , buy it and read ?
problems with 4R70e transmission , not told. clearly
scanning the PCM now is what is best done.
any time a transmission like this fails to shift the PCM tells you why or how it was detected. via what. with DTC codes
why not scan it.?

OD function. real name is 4th gear is overdriven
so if the tranny stops at 3rd gear we say 4th gear is dead.
4th gear is 0.70: 1 ratio.
engine spins 3/4 turn(near) and drive shift goes 1 full turn
as in overdriven gear.
now lets talk dead 4th gear, all the ways it can happen
sadly lots. for sure you not scanning the PCM first to see why.
speed sensors lie
transmission sensor shows overheating,
engine load is too high. 4th gear makes that worse so why wreck clutch packs doing that and it sure does not.
learn the transmissions are shifted by speed and loads.
load on the engine if tops.
VSS errors, OSS errors
and more, even a weak engine, is a cause.
sorry but this is how it all works
and you can not fix modern cars and trucks lacking a good scan tool..

05 Chrysler pacifica is a 4 speed automatic, next time buy a car with a 5 speed automatic

i would say that is exactly what it is, can you run a diagnostic on it, this may clear any misleading sensor messages it has recieved/sent during the rebuilt etc

not enought facts ,is it 4x4 4x2 what size engine ,does it have any aftermarket assy? does the od drive button flash on the shifter

4th gear disengagement:

The 4th gear is engaged automatically after the transmission has shifted through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears

at certain speeds and loads. By pressing in the button at the rear of the selector level, the 4th gear can be

disengaged, thus providing a three-speed transmission. As a reminder the

? light on the dashboard

glows. By pressing in the button again, the transmission reverts to four-speed operation and the

light shuts off.
This is straight out of the owner's handbook. What this indicates is that there may be a problem with the shift solenoid. On the highway, does is seem to rev high? Can you press the button on the shifter and have the light go out? let me know.

its a good idea to have the OD off lit up while driving in the city,it just keeps the transmission from shifting into 4th gear in the city and alot less wear and tear on your tranny from unwanted shifting,if you are over 40 mph just hit the button and let it go into 4th gear for the highway or a higher mph area,hope this helps

sounds as if you should service the transmission they wil replace oil and filters and gaskets etc ..

Check that the OD solenoid on the torque converter is good still. When the R4 wont go into OD you have no more gears than 1st an 2nd. If the OD clutch drum was relaced if it was burnt, that will make a problem also. You have to have OD in order for these babies to work right.
