The Pontiac power steering pump run off a shaft driven and not belt driven. This means that when the steering system is stressed instead of the belt slipping it puts a lot of stress on that shaft and could cause that to break. If nothing seems to effect the power steering I would have to guess that this is what happened and the power steering pump will have to be replaced.

F250 2005 steering wheel turned freely but tires didn`t move worked wheel back and forth couple of clunk noises and steering work again?

Either a bad steering gear or likely a power steering leak. Check fluid, fix leak, bleed system carefully and completely.

My 2000 ford mustang is running really rough. I added a gas additivie, a tad bit of transmission fluid, a little power steering fluid and some oil recently. I'm hoping I didn't cause this but now...

Sounds like an idle control issue or a vacuum leak. Most auto parts stores will check the engine light for free. Have them check the system for trouble codes and repost with the codes

The power steering isn't working. The reservoir was empty and I added power steering fluid and it still very hard to steer

YOU HAVE A RUPTURE PRESSURE LINE IF YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR.LOCATE LEAK THEN BLEED POWER STEERING SYSTEM BY ADDING POWER STEERING TO RESERVOIR.DONT OVER FILL BY FULL COLD MARK ON POWER STEERING DIP STICK.ADD FLUID TO RESERVOIR WAIT A 2 MINUTES.CHECK FLUID LEVEL AGAIN.WHEN POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING.START ENGINE LET IT RUN FOR 10 SECONDS.THEN TURN OFF ENGINE CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID ADD FLUID IF FLUID LEVEL DROPS. WHEN FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING.SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS.START ENGINE.NOW TURN STEERING WHEEL GENTLY FROM STOP TO STOP MEANING LEFT TO RIGHT DONT HOLD IN POSITION.LET THE STOP TO STOP BE QUICK.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID AFTER YOU HAVE TURN STEERING WHEEL ABOUT 7 STOP TO STOP.WHEN FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING YOU AT HOT MARK ON DIP STICK BLEEDING PROCESS COMPLETE.TURN OFF ENGINE LOWER VECHICLE BACK TO GROUND WAIT ABOUT 5 MINUTES CHECK YOUR FLUID LEVEL.IF FLUID LOOKS LIKE A TAN COLOR.YOUR POWER STEERING SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF VECHICLE LET VECHICLE SET A LONG WHILE TO AIR BUBBLES SETTLE DOWN LOOK FOR LEAKS AROUND POWER STEERING PUMP FRONT SEAL AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND POWER STEERING LINES.

Power steering no power ?

Three possible causes that I can think of:
1. The belt for the power steering pump broke.
2. The power steering pump itself failed.
3. Loss of power steering fluid.
Best to find a local shop to deal with this. The power steering system may need servicing if adding power steering fluid doesn't work.

Very heavy steering on escort xr3i

it varied across the range, if you can see a bottle with a steering wheel icon on top then yes, however the older escorts where heavy to steer, i think that it was later on that they started adding power steering.

Power steering is gone

that would be the pump. Try checking the fluid and adding some. If that don't help then you will need a knew pump.

2004 Jeep Liberty Power Steering Quit Working

I would check for leaks. After the car sits overnight look undernieth the cor on the drivers side. You are most likely going to see a tiny puddle of very thin oil. Check the tubing connections at the pump (mounted to the engine on the drivers side) and the front axel. Be certain to use Mopar power steering fluid when topping off. You may also need to get any air out of the system. Jack up the car so that both wheels are off the ground. With the engine turned off, turn the wheels to left and right lock positions a couple times. Lower the car, top off the fluid if necessary & give it a drive. Hope that works for ya.
