You cant. since your truck is supercharged, you need to replace it. it does not need to be replaced on non supercharged models, but it does on the supercharged ones. failure of the knock sensor in supercharged truck puts the supercharger in "fail safe mode"which results in the supercharger not working as designed.

Replaced the water pump on 96 nissan maxima. timing did not get messed with at all. i had pulled the timing cover but the chain looked good and there was no way it could have jumped time. my obd scanner...

Sounds like you missed connecting something back up. The Knock senser won't make it not run it'll just not let it run at peak power. The OHMs on the sensers just need to be close and your old senser may be just fine. The senser watches a reluctor wheel go by. Did you put it back on? did you put it right side up? It'll fit backwards but it won't line up with the senser.

How to replace a knock sensor on nissan pathfinder 1998

It's located deep in the valley! Under the "LOWER intake manifold". copy and paste this link in your browser, or try clicking on it. It may be helpful to you.

http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/pathfinder/7890-3-3l-knock-sensor-relocation.html

I didn't find this link until after I had already disassembled my truck. This is the hardest job that I've taken on thus far, hope I can put it all back together properly. I changed the gaskets on the valve covers since I had everything off.
To answer your question: It's under your lower intake manifold, so it's a hard job!

Lack of power and rough idle

Is your "check engine" or "service engine soon" light on? Lacking power is usually an emission system problem, for instance possibly a bad EGR valve or mass air flow senser. O2 sensers are common to fault but normally doesn't cause power loss usually causes alittle rough idle. Could even be a pluged catalic converter to. have the truck plugged into a scanner, that will tell you the trouble codes and fault info.

sounds like you have a blown head gasket this would explain loss of coolant and running poorly excessive smoke.
