My 2003 Dodge 3500 automatic transmission seems to be slipping in 2nd or 3rd gear. I pulled the trans pan and it doesn't have any metal shavings that would make me think its shaved a gear. I can't find many information on this, with Dodge transmissions being so terrible, I figured someone would know something to send me in the right direction to look for a simple fix. Any help out there?

I have a 93 MB 2.6 190E . went to junkyard, got same tranny, spent 500 bucks to replace. Drives fine. No metal shavings on mine either but changed tranny, ok.

Hi. I hate to say it, but if you have metal shavings in your drain pan you've got some major problems, especially if it slipping and not going into gear. The problem with not going into gear is usually the syncros being worn. I recommend taking the transmission to a transmission shop. They can look at it and some shops you can talk into just fixing the broken/damaged part instead of rebuilding the whole tranny. If you don't want to go that route you can look for a used one, but either way you will have to one or the other VERY soon if you want to keep on rolling.

I agree with the shift solenoid being the problem.

the trans has a serious failure, that is why the metal, it can be overhauled for less than a replacement

There are diagnostic pressure tests that can be performed at a shop. Requires special adapters,guages and spec sheet. Most likely trans failure. Possible failed torque converter or front pump.
