I have a F-150 99 with a code of P1131... Is it that sensor off the exhaust manifold the problem?? I also heard you have to have a special tool for this?? It runs great maybe idles a little rough. Does anyone have any suggestions. Everyone keeps telling me there is an O2 sensor in that part on the exhaust manifold. I have already invested so much money in this truck I hope to solve this problem & be done with the ford problems...Thanks

The P1131 means that your upstream oxygen sensor (the one closest to the engine) is not switching rich to lean and back as frequently as it should. This could be due to a vacuum leak, a failing oxygen sensor, or a rich fuel mixture.
Rich mixture - Too much fuel, not enough air.
Lean mixture - Too much air not enough fuel.

Bank one, sensor 1 O2 sensor is on the pass side. The first one in the headpipe/exhaust manifold. If you can get a 7/8 wrench on it,you should be able it remove it. You might have to borrow an O2 sensor socket. It has a slot through it to get it over the wire.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: P0136, P1131, and P1151 codes on Ford Expedition 2000 4.6L

Your auto has four O2 sensors. Two upstream and two downstream; With two banks. Bank 1, sensor 1...and bank 2, sensor 1 are the two upstream (exhaust manifold before the catalytic). Bank 1, sensor 2 and bank 2, sensor 2 (other side of catalytic)

Code 1131= upstream; bank 1..sensor 1
Code 1151= upstream; bank 2..sensor 1
Code P0136 (generic code) bank 1..sensor 2 (questionable)

I wouldn't spend the money to purchase 3 sensors. Highly unlikely all three are bad; Cost is about $40/ ea.
Since there isn't a code for the cat's themselves, I would suspect the O2 circuit is malfunctioning. The rough idle is another clue.

Take an ohmmeter set it on X10 scale and measure the resistance from engine to body and body to negative post on battery terminal. You should read zero ohms (full needle deflection). If you do go buy two upstream O2 sensors. If you read
open or a high resistance run two straps from eng. to body...and body to neg.batt. post.

1998 Lincoln Continental runs rough at idle and stalls out sometimes. It has been doing it more often lately.RUns ok once I get up to speed .Plus I get ok MPG. GOt error codes p0190 & p1131 & p0455.

code p0190 refers to fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor--circuit malfunction===causes wiring--FRP sensor--ECM
code p0455 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve --open circuit ===causes wiring short circuit--EVAP canister purge valve--ECM
code p1131 refers to faulty heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) bank 1 which is the sensor in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter

I have a '96 Bronco. It started making a horrible noise when starting, almost like a timing belt problem. Now it won't idle. Codes came up as P1131 and codeP 1151.

code p 1131 is heated oxygen sensor bank 1 and p 1151 is heated oxygen sensor bank 2
they are the sensors in the exhaust manifolds before the cat converters
timing belt problems and it will not start let alone idle

How to fix p1131 and p1151 on a ford f150 4.2

Both codes involve the O2 sensor on the exhaust! They need replaced! you will see a wire plug going to a piece on the exhaust manifold. that is what needs replaced.

What is the p1131 and the p1151 codes mean?

P1131 and P1151 are for the oxygen sensors. one in the exhaust at the firewall and one at the radiator off the manifold. When both go off though at the same time I would suspect a vacuum leak after the MAF sensor(mass air flow), if only one code then suspect that O2 oxygen sensor

Our 2002 ford explorer has a p1131 code. I hear it could be an o2 sensor on bank 1, How can I change it myself?

you would have to jack up the front end and the o2 sensor is onthe exhaust manifold on the passenger side . Just take the right size wrech and losen the sensor and replace it.

I need to replace the o2 sensor on my 4 door elantra.

LOOK ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST PIPE NEAR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.YOU NEED TO CRANK CAR UP FEW MINUTES TO HEAT UP EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO GET O2 SENSOR OUT WITH OUT DAMAGING ITS THREADS HOLES.BESURE SPRAY A LITTLE LIQUID WRENCH OR WD40 TO HELP TO REMOVE O2 SENSOR.YOU HAVE TO GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE AND BUY SPECIAL SOCKET TO REMOVE THE OXYGEN SENSOR.ALSO WEAR LONG SLEEVES COVERALL AND GLOVES TO KEEP FROM GETTING BURN ON EXHAUST SYSTEM.WHEN YOU CRANK CAR UP TO HEAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD JUST DO IT FOR A MINUTE OR TWO NO LONGER.SO YOU WONT GET BURN WHILE REMOVING THE OXYGEN SENSOR.

P1131 manufacturer control fuel air metering. What is the part? The car is Mazda 626 carburator 1997.

Hi Galant5Rov,

Firstly, congratulations to you on identifying the Trouble Code. This code relates to the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02s)

The oxygen sensors supply the computer with a signal that indicates a rich or lean condition during engine operation (i.e. fuel/air metering).

This input information assists the computer in determining the proper air/fuel ratio. A low voltage signal from one or more sensors indicates too much oxygen in the exhaust (lean condition) and, conversely, a high voltage signal indicates too little oxygen in the exhaust (rich condition).

The oxygen sensors are threaded into the exhaust manifold and/or exhaust pipes on all vehicles.

A faulty oxygen sensor due to loose connections, bad grounds, high resistance in the circuit, or opens in the circuit can cause the following symptoms.
Related Symptoms
  • Surging at idle
  • Unstable idle
  • Running rough off idle
  • Hesitation
  • Stumble
  • Chuggle
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Spark knock
  • Stalling on acceleration
You must take EXTREME care when removing these sensors, as they can be difficult to remove (seize up). You may require a special tool to remove these without causing damage to the sensor.

Cheers,

P0401. P0133, P1131- emmision test

Based on what the tech manuals say I would change the DPFE sensor for the EGR Valve, careful not to tear the special silicone rubber hoses that go to it from the exhaust, as a Ford dealer tech I saw these codes allot, and the DPFE sensor was almost always the issue or the hoses going to it.
