My door ajar light goes on immediately after I turn my ignition off and doesn't always go off when I push the door button which is normally pressed in when the door closes. The interior light goes out when the door is closed, and sometimes the door ajar light goes out also when the door is closed. Could there be a problem with the connection between the ignition and the door ajar switch? Or what else could it be? 1999 subaru impreza sport.

Could be a faulty switch or a wiring problem. A dealer or authorized repair shop can answer the question about what is wrong and provide a cost estimate to repair it.

If you have any of the large chain auto parts stores in your area, call them and ask if they do free scans; most do.
If Subaru has maintained the same procedures for a while, and you have checked fluids, etc., you can try resetting the light via the ignition switch:
-Turn on the ignition (don't start) - switch it rapidly between the 'ignition on' and 'ignition off' positions three times.
If the error has cleared itself (not uncommon), the check light will reset. If the problem is still present, it will either stay or come back on.
Our Su has done this a couple of times and with the scanner we have on hand, there was never any particular repeated problem. Just a computer glitch/hiccough -

SOURCE: I have a 1999 Subaru Impreza- Remote locking

First, it may seem obvious, but check the fuses associated with the remote unlock. Next, go to Autozone or somewhere like that where they have a remote tester. That will tell if the remote is functional. If the remote works and the fuses are good, see if you can find out how to program remotes to it. It may have forgotten the code for that remote.

SOURCE: 2002 Subaru Forester - door ajar light is always

This is bound to be a courtesy light switch on one of your doors. Check all the switches to see if they have been damaged. You may have to remove the rubber protection boot to do this. Once you find and replace the faulty switch, all should be well again.

Why are 1994 pathfinder brake light, door ajar, check engine, and alternator lit?

when the battery is flat or removed from the engine then the CPU program can become corrupted . IT is always a good idea to use a scanner tool to reprogram the CPU properly to eliminate any faults that first show up before changing anything to the systems as this changes can create more problems than they solve especially if it was only a program problem to start with.

You will note a simple contact switch on the door sill. It has probably jammed, dislodged, or is broken by someone kicking it upon entry/exit. Realign it and see if the warning light goes off when you press the switch in (simulates door closed). If it goes "off", you're home free. If it doesn't you will have to order a replacement switch from the dealer. They are easy to replace by carefully prying away the rubber grommet and sliding the switch out... there should be a simple wire plug for it... unplug it and plug in the new one. Note the grommet position so you don't have to take it loose again to friction the grommet in properly. Test it with your finger pressing it down again, engine "on", door open. Should cure your problem. Good Luck

Door ajar

Hi,

Often, intermittent "Door Ajar" warning is indicative of a faulty switch. The switch is normally embedded into the body and is triggered by the door pushing on a rubber cover. They are normally located at the rear edge of the door opening. A 1997 Ford Explorer would have a switch similar to the image below.
b4e4128.jpg
It is highly probable that the switch has some corrosion causing it to engage every now and then. Another probability is that the rubber cover has come loose causing vehicle vibration to engage the switch.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
