At what mileage am I suppose to change the timing belt on my 2000 Chrysler Sebring Convertible?

Not sure which belt it is without looking at engine. Because of year and being you don't know service records I would replace all belts. The timing belt is in side the engine that usually just breaks without warning. The hissing could also be the air conditioner compressor which I think is controlled by that belt

It is recommended to replace every 105,000 miles

Depending on which engine you have, there should be a spring loaded tensioner pulley that you move with a large breaker bar. The tensioner should have a 1/2 inch drive square hole or a bolt for a socket.

personnally i recommend a belt change at 60,000,the reason is,i have, like many others, have had a belt snap,and the makers do not pay the bill.maybe to some as excesive,but have you seen the bill for a new head etc....?

The belt is supposed to last for 105,000 miles. These sebring cars are notorious for breaking timing belts well before then. If your car has over 80,000 on it I would schedule a timing belt change in the near future. Don't be surprized if you have to also change the water pump.

HI there. My water pump just went out on my 2004 300M with 85000 miles. My cost was about $400 to replace the water pump and timing belt.
I recommend replacing the water pump at the same time since you have to take the timing belt off to change the water pump.
$350 is a good price. The dealer will charge you double that.
