The belt can slip if the tensioner is weak .If you here a squeal when you accelerate,its a good possibility. The Alternator can drain the battery,even if it is charging the battery.If a light is on when the car is parked,such as a door ajar,glove box light on,trunk light on,any thing that's on a hot citcuit not controlled with the ignition key,will drain the battery in a few hours or overnite,or a day or so.
More likely you have a short.

There is a difference between a drain, and a short,within a circuit. In a short it is positive to ground, in that one circuit.AND SOME TYPE OF DAMMAGE CAN RESULT,IF NOT JUST THE WIRING. A drain in a circuit has a bulb or any item that can absorb the voltage and current,(AMPS) CURRENT FLOW) between the positive battery terminal, and a ground,this will in time drain the battery.A simple example can be a build up of dust on a battery's top surface,between its 2 terminals. or the dust and moisture build up on a rectifier assembly in an alternator,or a diode leaking to ground through the resistence of the debris.And can be detected by using a simple volt meter!A volt meter placed between the positive post, and the positive cable, WILL show battery voltage, when a circuit is detected to use current,because the circuit is closed and not open like it should be these circuits are most usually hot 100% of the time,and the element,or resistence that is useing the voltage is a drain on the battery,LIKE A BULB..And the voltage needle deflexion will detect the drain. A short will most always run down a battery verry fast, and will over heat wiring and damage a battery,or a charging system.Because the battery will be dead and this will damage the charging system.
