The belt can slip if the tensioner is weak .If you here a squeal when you accelerate, its a good possibility. The Alternator can drain the battery, even if it is charging the battery. If a light is on when the car is parked, such as a door ajar, glove box light on,trunk light on,any thing that's on a hot citcuit not controlled with the ignition key, will drain the battery in a few hours or overnite,or a day or so.

More likely you have a short.

There is a difference between a drain, and a short, within a circuit. In a short it is positive to ground, in that one circuit.AND SOME TYPE OF DAMMAGE CAN RESULT,IF NOT JUST THE WIRING. A drain in a circuit has a bulb or any item that can absorb the voltage and current,(AMPS) CURRENT FLOW) between the positive battery terminal, and a ground, this will in time drain the battery.A simple example can be a build up of dust on a battery's top surface, between its 2 terminals. or the dust and moisture build up on a rectifier assembly in an alternator,or a diode leaking to ground through the resistence of the debris. And can be detected by using a simple volt meter!A volt meter placed between the positive post, and the positive cable, WILL show battery voltage, when a circuit is detected to use current, because the circuit is closed and not open like it should be these circuits are most usually hot 100% of the time, and the element,or resistence that is useing the voltage is a drain on the battery,LIKE A BULB..And the voltage needle deflexion will detect the drain. A short will most always run down a battery verry fast, and will over heat wiring and damage a battery,or a charging system.Because the battery will be dead and this will damage the charging system.

Battery light on and was acting like didnt want 2 go when stop

The battery light indicates the the battery is'nt being charged by the altenator. This can happen if the fan belts are bad or slipping or even missing. The belt can look good and be bad. A tight belt can still slip if it's worn out. The altenator can be worn out too. If that's all that's wrong with it you can wrap on it with it running and if might take off working again. ( You;ll hear the motor slow a little as the load of the altenator s load pulls the engine). The light will also gto out if it starts chargeing again. If it does start charging you'll still need the replace the alrtenator with a good used or rewbuilt unit as it's on it's last legs if wrapping on it get it to work.. Of course other car repairs like a water pump or fan belts can cause problems too and need to be looked into including making sure the electrical conections are all pluged in and tight. Most auto parts stores can cheak your battery and altanator right in front of the stare and a bad battery can cause all the problems you describe.

Will altenator cause motor not to start even though you are getting fuel and spark

ALtenator runs your car while it is running and charges your battery. If your altenator is bad you car will run on the battery until it drains the battery dead. So no the altenator will not prevent you car from starting. Check your fuses.

Change alternator

It's easy...
Disconnect the battery
Remove the supentine belt from the altenator pully, you can use a 3/8" drive breaker bar on the belt tensioner, just insert into the square slot on the tensioner and rotate it clockwise.
Remove the power wire and the harness
Remove the mounting bolts 1 under and 2 on the sides.

Just reverse the process to install the new altenator.
Make sure the supentine belt is in the proper position.
Make sure the battery is charged before starting, a drained battery can damage the FETs on the new altenator.

Altanator keeps dieing.

A fresh charged battery does not mean it is a good battery. The battery is working the alternator to death, replace it,it has a bad cell,or the amps are to low,and has a short in it.The alternator senses the battery is in bad need off charge, and puts all out until the alternator has nothing left,This is the most likely cause of this problem. Also be sure the battery cable ends are shiny clean when replacing the battery.

Battery charges when idling but not at speed. 81 datsun

This sounds like the altenator belt is loose. When the altenator is under a load the magnetic field causes the altenator to require more fource to rotate. At higher engine rpms the belt can be slipping on the altenator pulley. There is one other possibility I can think of and that would be that the voltage regulator is faulty and and causing an overvoltage at higher engine speeds and therfore opening up the field circuit to prevent the altenator from over charging the battery this is a safety function of the regulator. I would check the belt first.
