Ford Explorer ED SUV won't start after filling up the gas tank. Immediately after putting gas into the car, the car won't restart. I've been stuck several times next to the gas pump. After a while, and more cranking, it will finally start and then runs fine until I fill the tank again.

Its not a gas issue. Its more than likely just coincidence that it doesnt start when you turn your car off to fill up.

Check the battery connections under your hood. If the posts (the positive and Negative leads) are corroded then you need to clean them so your cables have better connection to draw a spark for your ignition.

Clean the posts with a solution of 1 part baking soda, 1 part warm water. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the corrosion away. The solution will fizzle when you mix it with the corrosion, this is normal and fine. Just scrub it clean.

Once clean, tighten the connection with a socket wrench.

You may also be having battery issues. If its been a long time since a new battery or youve never replaced it, I would. Paying 70 bucks up front for a brand new battery is much better than getting stranded and a tow

. Autozone can help you with the battery replacement. Hope this helps. good luck.

Why won't gas go in tank of 2002 Ford Explorer

If you cant get gas in the tank through the filling point then there is something obstructing it between the fill hole and the tank. Remove the line and find out what is plugging it.

2002 Ford Explorer ran out of gas put gas in and won't restart. replaced fuel pump and fuel filter still won't start. Cranks but won't start

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

Car won't start after filling up the gas tank.

Just helped a friend fix this exact same issue on his 2004 hyundai santa fe. Replaced the purge control valve - a $39 part, even from the dealer. Had to get our hands dirty, but it took literally one single hour to replace the part. Filled it up immediately afterward and no more starting problems. Part is located directly behind the manifold - top, rear of the engine compartment - just between the engine

Filling gas tank

There is a vent pipe that runs along the fill pipe, they get kinked and cause this concern (tank can't vent air when filling), the only fix is to replace the fill pipe assembly.
