I'm in Australia ! I have a 13b turbo in a s4 convertible and a hardtop I'm about to fit a gen 3 chev ls7 427ci v8 into! They have oodles more power on tap and are made of alloy !!! A ford V8 is iron and would throw the balance way out! Not saying the ls7 won't but it will be a lot less of a difference than the heavy ford option! Here in Australia the LS series of engines came in our commodore! Four door family car ! They came in auto or 6.speed ! That's what I'm using! There are kits including extractors crossmembers and everything needed to do it minus a aftermarket ecu to control it all! Then there are turbo/supercharger options! 1200rwhp is very achievable !!!
Well the most common swaps are putting in Small block ford's and Chevy's. The one I see mostly is the 5.0 Mustang motor swap. There are numerous kits for motor mounts and relocation brackets that make it a fairly straight forward swap. Do a little research and you will start seeing quite a few results that will answer your questions on How to's and so forth.
