A Nissan ultima does not have a timing belt,it has a timing chain, look up in your manual for your maintenance schedules when and at what mileage you are needed to change the chain, usually the chain is changed when it is loose through stretching in wear over mileage,a very loose chain has a rattling noise in the engine compartment by the cam gears, good luck ,hope that I was helpful.
The timing belt should be changed every 60,000 miles cuz when they break they can do alot of damage to the engine. The 2001 Pathfinder might have a chain but it should still be checked at 60,000 miles.
The timing chain doesn't really have a maintenance period. They don't have a habit of breaking or stretching. Timing belts on some vehicles do have a recomended replacement period. Locate your local NTB, Firestone, or Sears for the maintenance schedule.
The timing belt is due at 60,000 miles. This is real critical. If you are in nedd of a schedule to go by then email me at [email protected] and I can send you a full schedule. Also send how many miles are currently on the vehicle and which engine(4 or 6 cylinder). DO NOT SKIMP ON THESE, USE THE HYUNDAI/KIA OIL FILTERS!! There are current recalls regarding the oil filters and the oil light on the dash. I have worked at the dealer as a Master Tech, so please heed this warning.
Select the RESET key using the Joystick and press ENTER. Reset the
driving distance to the new schedule, Or to reset "Maintenance Notice"
on the display, turn the ignition key to
ON, with engine off. Select the "Maintenance Schedule' key by using the
button to right or left. Using the button select the "Reset" key and
push the "Enter" button.
You can obtain a factory service manual for your vehicle with this
information and complete service procedures from Promanuals.net for
cheap. Here is link to your vehicle.
Remove the belt and check all pulleys for smooth operation. any binding at all is amplified when belt tension is applied. also check the belt itself...If it's glazed or dried out, it can be noisy.
Hello hecri, my name is JShreader. Thank You for asking your question here at fixya.com
Below is the Maintenance Schedule for 82k-90k. It is the 90k Schedule you need to be more concerned about (granted the maintenance has been kept up by you or previous owners).
This Engine is Chain Driven, so there is no need to worry about a Timing Belt. Timing Chains are designed to last the life of the Engine. As well as the listed items, personally on the 90k visit, I would go ahead check the Ball Joints and Suspension Components. These tend to wear around the 90-95k mile mark. I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, JShreader!
