We have a 92 olds 88. 2 issues with it. First, have an eletrical issue, battery keeps going dead if it sits for an extended period of time, ie 2 weeks, when putting a battery charger or jumper cables on it, it sparks heavily, indicating a draw somewhere, can't seem to locate it. 2nd when car is warm, and driving down the road, it loses power, does not miss or backfire, occasionally chugs, and eventually dies, but starts right back up and is fine for 3-5 miles and then dies again, repeats the process.....I have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, put sea foam and seems to be better but still does it occasionally....possibly a tps ? any help would be appreciated. the internet lied again.; 1/2 the time, asking 8year kid same.

the top parts sellers online,shows, no REG outside, so strike 2 on reg outside.

learn to keep that old (how old is it?) battery charged fully until car runs perfectly. or it can take 1/2 to jump start it or worse. dead batteries do not start engines and overload the poor donor cars electrics, doing so.(jumped)

once battery is new, or charged or load tested in a real shop
start the engine, see if GEN/CHARGE lamp goes out.? on dash.
if not alt is bad. wow no fuse then, scary then. lots of car fires.
or use voltmeter idling, at bat terms. 13,to 15vdc good below ALt is dead

How old is the battery? Does the car sit for long periods of time? Or is it an old battery with the vehicle driven only short trips? If thebattery has died many times and you have charged it. It more than likely has a dead cell. The issue with this is it will still read 12v when connected to a battery charger making you think the battery is good. Walmart will test for free, plus they have cheap batteries.

You first have to determine if it is a charging of the battery issue, or the battery itself, or if there is an unintended drain on the battery while sitting.
You can check if the alternator is charging good, by putting a voltmeter on the battery while engine is running. Voltmeter should read over 13 volts, somewhere between about 13.2 volts and tops about 14 volts, or just over. Anything less than 13 volts, and the alternator is not up to par, not charging the battery sufficiently.
If the battery is a little old, and beyond its warranty, it may just be too old to take a full charge, or it might have a dead cell. You can have the battery tested to see if it is still good.
If the alternator and battery are both good and working properly, you can check for an overnight drain with just a simple testlight. Everything in car should be off. Now take off the battery negative terminal and connect the testlight between the negative cable end and the battery negative post. If you have anything draining the battery while it sits, the testlight will light up brightly. If no light, or a very dim bulb, the system is good. A dim light would just be computer and clock memory, a very small draw, like milliamps, and should not be enough to run the battery down.
If you have a bright light on the tester, just start pulling fuses out one at a time, till light goes out. The circuit for the fuse that turned the testlight off is the problem circuit. Something on that circuit should be off and not drawing power, but it is.

Yes, you have dead spots an the starter commutator. The way to tell is this: the next time it happens, get a hammer and hit the starter dead on the side. If it then starts, replace the starter.

Being you ruled out the alternator as a cause for the battery dieing, i would start looking into the parasitic draw on your battery when the car is shut off, make sure all your courtesy lights are going off and that none of them are staying on overnight, check your glove box light and make sure thats going off and not saying on, another overlooked item would be your trunk light, make sure the light in the trunk is in fact going off as you close the trunk, if any of these lights are staying on it will drain the battery and cause it to be dead the next morning....

your battery may be dead dead. The electric clicking is a telltale sign that the battery is weak or depleted and does not have enough juice to turn over the starter. This is extremely common when the car is left to sit for an extended period without being used.

the clicking you hear is the starter solenoid trying to engage the starter, but the battery is to weak to do so.

There are a couple solutions. First you can get a set of jumper cables and jump the s2000 with anther battery. Once the car is running the battery will alutomatically begin to recharge.

the second is to buy and use whats called a trickle charger or 'battery tenderizer' this is a small device that you plug into the car and it will automatically keep the battery charged over extended periods of time without the risk of over charging the battery. If you use one of these it will also slowly charge yoru current battery enough overnight for it to work in the morning

look for trunk lights or under hood lights unplug and see if that helps
