My car; 1998 audi A6 quattro 2.8 won't start. Some checked and told me its my key that expired. I started observing that sometimes after a drive, when i park the car it won't start when i attempt to re-start, sometimes after several attempts the car would start. It continued this way for months until it won't start anymore. I need help my car is parked for over 3 months now.

SOURCE: Audi A6 Misfires

You may have a coil pack going bad. They're on the front top of the engine - you'll see them if you follow the spark plug wires back. Do you have any codes from having the engine scanned? If you can get it scanned (AutoZone will do it free), post the codes up and we'll see which cylinder(s) are misfiring. From there, you can swap coilpacks around and see whether the misfires follow the packs or stay in the original cylinders. If they move, you have a bad coil pack or two. If they don't, since you've already changed plugs and wires, I'd see about having the injectors diagnosed to see if any of them are failing.

SOURCE: Oil questions for 2003 Audi A6 Quattro

oil type is either 5W-30W or 10W-30W depending how cold your climate is, as far as having the car properly taken care of, the Audi dealer is the best option, they have all the proper tools and service info needed to keep the car in top running condition.

SOURCE: Audi Quattro A6 will not go into drive

It's the brake pedal switch. There is a switch down on the pedal arm that closes when you press the pedal down, and sends a sensing voltage to the controller, telling it the brakes are applied. This allows the transmission lock to disengage so you can shift out of Park. When that switch fails, the lock won't disengage. You need to replace that switch and you'll be fixed.

try to turn the steering wheel slightly while turning the key. I would make sure the starter is bolted in good and not binding up.

It absolutely could be the immobilizer (security system). Have you ever had the master key? All the keys should work but if one becomes deprogrammed it needs to be reset (unfortunately by the dealer).
But, before you do that...
Have you checked the voltage level of your battery? It could very well be that your battery has enough juice to power all the accessories but not enough to crank the engine. Try jump starting the car or replacing the battery and see if it starts. Let us know if that works.

Under bonnet on the right side of the car face to windscreen you will find the fuse box / relay plate - engine bay. Here is placed the Data Link Connector (DLC) for Audi A6 Quattro 1997.

Audi not starting

i think you have a faulty starter. If you know where the starter is. you could get someone to knock on it. when you trying to start. Works sometimes. It also could be bad connection to the fuel pump. check/listen if it get fuel. when cranking.

Audi A6 Quattro - Looses lights

They usually have igniters that will start to give out on the light bulbs. But if they did not find any faults then it would require a long diagnosis time.

All you need to do is get the throttle motor/body re-adapted, this can be done by audi, sometimes if you were to drive the vehicle 30 miles it will re-adapt itself but as its not idling, this can be difficult
