Gas gauge no longer works

The light behind my gas gauge no longer works when I turn my headlights on. All the other gauges are lit, but not the gas gauge. How do I get in there to replace the bulb and fix this? Or is it a fuse problem? I have a 1998 jeep scout Thanks

On my 93 Chevy caprice the dash lights and cluster won't work. Gas gauge went so far up that I can no longer see it.

First check and see if the dash light dimmer control on the headlight switch is turned down all the way, which shuts off the dash lights. As far as the gas gage goes that is more then likely a defective gas tank fuel level sending unit.

I have a 1983 Chevy S10 pickup. With headlights off all gauges work normal. When you pull the headlight switch on all the panel lights except the windshield wiper switch locator light never turn on and all...

take a look at the dash ground wire located next to the right of ebrake release handle. if the bole holding the ground wire is loose, which was quite common it will cause all kinds of feed back problems, like described in the comments section to your question.

My 1984 camaro turn signal lights dont blink but are lit. Also, when i turn my lights on, my tachometer, oil pressure and temperature gauge stop working.

The turn signals use a small relay for the flash, it's located in the interior fuse panel under the dash (small metal/plastic can)...it's the only thing in the fuse panel that's not a fuse.

They're a few dollars at Autozone and easy to replace.

The short/overload killing the dash gauges will be a bit harder to troubleshoot...Do the gauges die with the parking lights, or only after the switch is all the way out to headlights?

I have a 1990 Honda CRX Si. When i drive the car with the headlights on, my gauge cluster goes crazy. Both left and right signal turn on and the hi-beam light turns on. My gas gauge goes to the very top...

Your alternator may be on it's last leg. Start the car and while the car is running, remove the negative cable from the battery. If the car dies, the alternator is no longer working. If you have a volt meter, put the meter on the battery positive and negative. You should read 13.8 - 14.2. If it doesn't show this, and reads under that, your alternator is not charging enough to keep your accessories going.

Fuel and Temp Gauge go on and off intermitently

faulty wiring for the lights, and blinkers....

broken gears for the fuel and temp gauge...

just get rid of the damn car, get a Civic of the same year.

I was given a 323 once, unsiezed the rear brakes (the idiot left the thing parked with the e-brake on all winter), then sold it for beer money.

Parking lights stay on when the key is turned off

there are more wires that you cannot see that are melted that is causing the problem. trace all of your wires, starting with the license plate light, all the way to the headlights
