You may of messed up your flywheel like Scargo said. But before you do all that, there are shims you can get for the starter. The starter gears maybe too close to the flywheel for proper alignment. Using shims will space the starter out farther and let the gears work together. Before you take it to the shop to get the ring gear replaced, I'ld try this soultion first. Basically, it's a trial and error type sisuation.

There may also be a loose bolt head scraping on your flex plate if you have an automatic transmission.

If, in changing the starter, it had a chewed up gear, then the ring gear on the flywheel is probably now worn out.
This is going to require pulling the engine to fix.

96 cavalier clicking sound in the dashboard

Have you changed the fuel filter? Also is there no starter on the car? If not put a starter on it or replace the one that is not there. You may have to clean all cable & starter connections first to see if starter actually works. Good luck!

You will also need to swap the speedo cluster. thats where the anti theft module is located. After that you may still need to relearn the key switch.I will look at the wiring diagrams and get back to you on the starter circut in side the vehicle. You may have to change some other things.Talk to ya soon. Dan
