My Viper battery is dead, where do I comnect the negative jumper cable under the hood. I tried but just got a clicking sound, think I had the negative clamp on a painted surface, tried again on the engine, but I think it was aluminum. Where would be the best place to connect the nagative clamp under the hood to ensure I get a good connection for a jump?

SOURCE: When I turn the key to crank my Dodge Ram 2500, nothing happens.

Is this a manual or automatic tranny? I would be looking at the gearshift selector, did you try starting it in neutral, as opposed to park, if it's an auto, and how about a switch on the clutch pedal to prevent starting in gear, if it's a manual? How about wiring to the neutral safety start switch? Any fuses, circuit breakers been checked? What year truck?
I'm just throwing things out there, just to check before you spend any more money that you don't have to.
I could use a battery, right now- got an extra one?
:-)

Good luck and keep us posted.

get a boost... sounds like the battery is run down.... if you want to test that theory... have someone try and start the car while you check hte voltage on the battery.... it may well even need replacement

SOURCE: where is negative connection for battery on 2006 dodge charger srt8

Also, to add to some mild confusion, the terminals under the hood on the charger are just there for a jump, thus there is only a positive terminal. The battery is actually stored in the trunk next to the spare.

SOURCE: Starter relay clicks, engine does not start

Your problem may be a ignition switch.  This part is inside the steering column.  Your ignition key/tumbler turns this piece to start the vehicle.  I see a lot of these that go bad.  Some are easy and some aren't.  Your Chilton should tell you how to change them.

H3 battery dead and doors are locked

Try charging the battery a bit by snaking the positive jumper cable underneath to the starter post where the big cable connects, and the negative jumper cable to a good ground on the frame.

You can use a battery charger or jumper cables on the battery access post and any good ground point.

Battery is dead, and I can't get in trunk. Manual

If you don't find the keyhole, find someone with jumper cables to power up the car so you can open the trunk. If the battery is in the trunk there should be a positive jumper cable connection point under the hood, Find bare metal on the engine to connect the negative jumper cable.

1) how do i get the trunk open if the battery in dead on a 2004 745Li? 2) can i just change it with the same one or is there something more involved?

I would have expected that you could open the trunk on an '04 with the key, but
There should be a lug under the hood where you attach a positive jumper cable. It will likely be in a plastic box with a "+" symbol. You attach the negative jumper cable to any solid unpainted metal under the hood.
Use another car or the new battery to power the car via the jumper cables so you can open the trunk.

Where to connect jumping cables on the battery

Dead car --- Red to + ... Black to -

Hot car --- Red to + ... Black to any metal car part away from the battery. Let the hot car charge the battery for a couple minutes before you try it. Try it. IMPORTANT: DISCONNECT THE HOT CAR BLACK JUMPER FIRST, then take the black off the dead car. Then disconnect the dead car red and then the other end on the hot car.

NO CRANK. NO STEREO. NO CLOCK.

I think that your battery is dead. Try jump starting the car. Be careful that you hook the jumper cables correctly, red to positive[the + on the battery] black to negative[the- on the battery].

LOCTION OF THE BATTERY

I know of the remote battery under hood on the left side, I have located the positive cable connection, and the manual states the negative cable connection is near the power steering pump.

But my question/problem is I need a specific picture of what the the negative cable connection looks like can you provide me a visual on this?

1999 porsche 911 how to open hood with dead battery

The cheapest way to get around this and get enough voltage into the system to open the hood is to purchase a cigarette lighter extension (about 3 feet) and cut off the female plug on the end. Strip the 2 wires back a few inches and attach one to the positive and the other to the negative on a set of jumper cables. Attach the other end of the negative jumper to a battery. With the keyless entry in hand, touch the positive cable to the positive terminal on the battery and press the unlock button until you hear the car doors click. Once it clicks, you should be able to use the hood latch to gain access to the battery.

I have power but it won't start. makes a clicking sound when istart it

Hello All,

This is a common indicator of a dead battery. You may see some lights and the radio may play, but there is not enough power to turn the engine over. What you must do is one of two things:

1. Get a jump start from a freind.
-This is done by putting the vechicles' front bumpers right in front of each other (Close but not touching).
- Open both hoods.
- Pull out your handy jumper cables (or borrow a friends).
- Connect one end of the red jumper to the red post (positive) on the dead battery.
- The post is the bit of metal sticking out the side or top usually surrounded by either black or red.
- Once you have connected to the Positive post, connect the other side of the red cable to the good battery's positive post.
- Connect the black or negative cable to the negative/black post on the good battery.
- At this point, look at the dead car's frame around the engine. Look near the battery for a piece of metal on the frame. Clamp your jumper cable to the metal. Be aware the cable may spark. This is normal.
- Count to three then try to start the dead vehicle.
- Remove the jumper cable opposite how you put it on (ie. negative off dead vehicle first, then negative off good vehicle, etc.)

If this does not work after a few tries, you may have to remove your battery and bring it in. Have a qualified mechanic do this if you are not sure how to do this.

Hope this helps.
