Most of the time when a BMW radio is removed to sell later, the code is written on top or bottom of the radio itself since it is worthless without the code. Remove the radio and look for the hand-written code.

If it is a Blaupunkt , then there are at least 2 different codes . One for USA (5 digit)one for UK/Europe (4 digit)
Four digit 8892 eight buttons 48812 six buttons 62232 four buttons 44412 nine presets 38892 these codes are for a becker radio my grundig codes were eaten by the AVG antivirus
Normally the dealer just needs to know the serial and it will give you the code in less than a minute. If the code they gave you doesn't work then the radio unit has been modified and the only ones that know what was modified are the ones that did it.
Just bite the bullet and get a new radio - one with an iPod hookup , your wife will appreciate that.
You went to the dealer and the code they supplied didn't worked. They are supposed to know their stuff better than anyone of us, and they had the unit in their hand. If they were incapable of helping you then not even the gods from heaven could, let alone us, from a half of a continent away.
That radio has been tampered with, it should not be trusted anymore, just replace it for your safety.
