I have a 1985 chevy s10 pickup 2.8 liter,2wd,automatic,w/2 barrel carbuerated motor.it starts rite up..but it idles rough,but when in park if i accelerate it smoothes out and sounds fine..revs rite up....but when I try and excellarate to take off with it in gear it misses and spits and sputters and coughs so I have to ease off the accelerator pedal and either try and pump it to increase speed or baby the throttle pedal down real slowly to get up to speed.... I broke the plastic 2nd barrel throttle cable connector and now its really bad..having only 1 barrelll now to increase speed with ...and it has no power what so ever\r\n thanks knyte

You should probably fix the cable for the second barrel--maybe you can make one with a coat hanger or similar item.

It seems to me that you may also have a miss. Have you checked plugs and wires? How about the timing?

Have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . If the check engine light starts flashing , park it . The flashing check engine light is telling you there is a catalytic converter damaging miss fire happening . An they can be damaged very easy .

1985 toyota pickup.22r,automatic trans,2 barrel carb,ca smog. rough idle until engine hits thermostat.passes smog.all vacume lines fine,and zip tied.
There ar two thermo vacuum switches on the intake manifold,one in the center top by the EGR pipe right next to the valve cover,and one center bottom on the outside right below the carburator,it may be that one of them is not fully opening/closing when the motor is cold.I'm not sure on this as I've never had this problem with my 22R's,hopefully this will point you in the right direction,if you want comment back and I'll research this further(it's 5 in the morn and I cant access my 22r manual)
