I have front end shaking with my 1995 Subaru Legacy Sedan. It is hard to control the steering and it doesn't matter if I am going straight or around curves. The car sounds like a helicopter going down the highway so I suspect I have at the very least a cv boot that is tore (suspect both on the right side are tore). There is some play in the front right axel -- is that normal? My ABS light is on and not sure if that may be causing some of the shaking.

SOURCE: 98 Subaru Rear Transmission Noise/Slipping around corners

I have the same issue. It is the clutch assembly and the 'duty' solenoid at the rear of the trans that tranfers power to the rear diff. My trans light is also on which is the solenoid. The clutch parts can had after market but, the solenoid is dealer only. I'm rebuilding the entire trans at this point (187k miles).

SOURCE: cv joint for a 1992 subaru legacy

Ok here's a couple helpfuls before i start if you have PB Blaster, that works great on spindle bolts. Another thing you will need is a long pry bar (maybe a crowbar if you had to) with a flat tapered end. You will need to remove your tire, spray the PB Blaster on the axle nut, and the 2 spindle bolts going through the strut.remove the axle nut, and the 2 spindle bolts, and seperate the strut from the spindle. Then swing the spindle and push down on it as you remove the axle spline from the hub. Once you do that, check the transmission side of the axle, to see if it has a "doul roll pin" that you need to tap out with a hammer and punch, but it may be the simple locking ring internaly at the end of the splined shaft. Then all you do is pry it back, make sure you have a very firm place to use for leverage, and give it a hard shove and it should pop right out. or you may need to repeat the prying step a few times. When installing the new axle, make sure it's snapped in completely on the transmission side so you don't damage it. Then all you need to do is reassemble it all.
Also when doing this, make sure you support the car by the body, behind the front wheel under the fender/door area. you will need to let the lower controal arm hang to do this.
Hope that does it for you,
Good luck!

SOURCE: 1999 Subaru Legacy Sedan.. speedometer works

I finally fixed mine, on my 1999 Subaru legacy 30th anniv edition. . .

I removed the speedometer head, and resoldered the green connector on the board. Then I also ran a wire to duplicate the trace wire from the middle pin to the first connect (about 4mm). Problem gone.

the air bag is not ok, this is exactly what they do when they have a leak, these air bags are shot at about 100,000 miles, they start to leak at the creases, u will see cracks there.

Steering wheel vibrating really bad all the sudden

you have an issue with a front tire more than likely. or could be the front rotor. I would bet my last breath its' tire or break/rotor related. Maybe even a wheel bearing but it usually doesn't cause vibration in steering wheel.

I have a shaking in the front end of my 1995 subaru legacy I thought it was the wheel balance but I had the wheels balanced and still have the same problem. I also had a problem with the exaust, it came...

It would give a slight vibration, but could cause the car to shake if the exhaust is broke, It could be a bad rotor. Even though you had the wheels balanced, did he check for broke belts or knots on the tires.

Steering wheel shakes violently when traveling over 55mph. What is the problem.?

front tires need to be balanced, make sure tires still have enough tread and front end does not have any worn parts such as inner and outer tie rods and upper and lower ball joints. also check and correct tires air pressure.

Wobble in steering wheel at low speeds. Braking on rutted surfaces induces a shaking in the front end.

have your tires checked for seperations before they explode on you going down the road.
