Sounds like the air gap on the compressor clutch is to wide, when the compressor turns off to recycle the electromagnet on the clutch is not strong enough to pull the air gap and lock up compressor. The air gap is adjustable and should be checked.

SOURCE: 1994 Previa A/C problem

Look to see that the A/C condensate drains are working. You should see water dripping out from the front & the back whilst the A/C is running. If no water; clean the drain tubes. Also, you need to be running the A/C on the RECIRC mode (the little car with an arrow doing a u-turn inside the car); if not, you are air conditioning outside air, and the unit is icing up from too much humidity. Sort of like running your fridge with the door open...
If neither of those items correct your issue, you may need to replace the A/C thermister; but, that is a very rare failure.

SOURCE: 1990 toyota pickup 22re engine runs hotter with ac on

I would bet that your fan is not coming on. When an airconditioner is on it uses alot of power and that makes heat. The engine will warm past the safe point. Most vehicles should have a switch that turns the fan on and off to cool the motor. You can start the vehicle and pop the hood. once it gets warm if you don't see the fan come on that's most likely your problem. Be very careful around the blade because they come on and off suddenly. I go to Auto Zone for free diagnostics. They only sell parts but can walk you thru possibly fixing it yourself.

AC Compressor running but no cold air?

If no air is coming out, the blower fan is not coming on. Find the blower fan, follow the wires back from the blower motor to a plug, unplug it, set it so the blower should be on, check for voltage across the plug. If there's about 12 volts, but the blower doesn't make any noise when you plug it back in, the motor has a problem (mine once quit like that because a moth got into it). If it buzzes, etc. the fan may be jammed.

The a/c on my 2010 Mercury Milan quits blowing after about 2 hours of driving. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like the A/C clutch is no good and out of adjustment. You should goto your nerrest junkyard and get a used assembly take the clutch off then you learn how it comes off and install it on yours the save the pump for later use if needed. The clutch should only have a .010 air gap after install between th inner elctro magnet and the clutch plate it's self.

2002 Ford Escape V6 4WD A/C works but while driving long distance >100 miles and while driving at speed (70 MPH) the HVAC [set to A/C or Max with the temp all the way cold], changes on its own and...

Sounds like you are losing vacuum to the HVAC system control or the mode control switch is defective. When you have this problem you will most likely find the air is coming out the defrost vents as that is the default flow when vacuum is lost to the system.

Air conditioner 2002 mercury marquis

In the engine bay, there is a set of fuses by the battery. Pop open the fuse panel. There should be a set of relays. Check in your manual under "Roadside Emergenies" for the relays and you will find one for the A/C Compressor. The compressor normally checks out fine, it is a common problem that the relay goes bad. Swap the relay with a new one and you should be golden!

The AC stops blowing air for a while and then re-start working normaly.

Have you noticed that the AC quits blowing cold air when you are heavy on the throttle, or climbing a hill? Does it return to blowing cold air when you let back off the throttle and relieve the load from the engine?

If you answered YES to those questions, your AC is operating normally. AC compressors take quite a bit of power from the engine to operate. In vehicles with smaller engines, the AC compressor will disengage when there is a heavy demand for power placed on the engine, and you will not get cold air. When that demand is gone, it re-engages power to the AC compressor.

No cold air

There may be enough freon to make the compressor engage however not to make it cool down. Once the freon drops enough, the compressor will not turn on to prevent damage to the unit.
When you say it comes on are you saying the blower fan works or that the compressor is indeed engaging?

2000 Jeep Cherokee Air Conditioner

If compressor isn't kicking in, check the connector atop the a/c accumulator, beside the coolant recover tank, in the engine compartment. That connector is atop a black bottle, and the connector goes to the low pressure switch. These switches do fail, and you can jump a wire across the connector terminals to see if the compressor comes on (engine running). As this circuit provides part of the ground path from the compressor clutch, if the switch is open, the compressor will never turn on. If the switch is failed, it can be replaced without opening the a/c system. Just disconnect the connector, unscrew the switch, replace it, and reconnect the connector.
