The airbag is removed by 4 torx screws from the back side. Disconnect the battery before removing the airbag or the airbag light will stay on and you will have to pay the dealer a bunch of money to reset it. Don't reconnect the battery until the airbag is replaces and the electrical connection is in place. Once the airbag is off, there is a 22 mm nut that holds the wheel on. After you take the nut off mark the shaft and wheel with a grease pencil so you know exactly how to put it back on or you will be driving crooked later. Then the wheel just slips of with a tug.
airbag light on means some DTCs stored in your airbag, so you should get a airbag reset tool to do your car, meybe B800 BMW airbag reset tool can do your car.
There is a sensor right at the bottom of the seat belt, that sensor works hand In hand with the airbag sensor. The solution is to replace the whole belt
This is most probably one of two problems, if the light goes on and off whilst turning the steering wheel, it is most probably is the slip rimg which sends the neccesary signals to the steering wheel components. it could possibly have a break in it causing eratic contact.
However, these cars are known to give problems with the passanger and driver seat occupation sensors. these are pads within the seat that detects whether someone is sitting there in order to know which airbags to deplyoy in the event it would be neccesary.
The only way to determine wich component is faulty the vehicle will have to be tested with diagnostic equipment.
my car does same just the sensor cant sence an airbag as if it was blown in other words wen the light is on the airbag wouldnt deploy if u had a crash and visa voursa would if it wasnt on. up to yourself if u think its serious enough nt to have airbag deploying.
HI it just sounds like a faulty airbag sensor, these are common on all bmw's try getting the local dealer to reset it or alternative is to replace the sensor, Hope this helps Steve
something in the airbag system is at fault. it could be the airbag(s) itself or any of the sensors that detect a crash to deploy the airbag. i would really take it into BMW and have it checked & repaired. the airbag(s) will not deploy with this light on so your safety is at risk if you are ever in an accident..
