2003 CTS cadillac, 135k miles. The idle jumps from 1000 to 1500 continuosly then it climbs up the the rev limiter for 10 seconds and repeats over and over. The trans now shifts hard, the dash says "service idle control" and the fault code says "*ECM" Is this a bad ECM? It's happened before for a couple days and then went away, but this time its not going away.. Any help is greatlt appreciated

I have the same problem. The dealer has installed a new throtttle body, then a new ECM. I STILL have the same problem. The dealer has no ideas and now wants to charge me to see if my valve seals are leaking. Sure, after $2,400 I'm going to let you pull the top of the engine off to check my valve seals.
One mechanic (non-Cadillac) feels the battery ground wire is corroded and should be replaced so that's my next step.

The service idle control and ECM problem should be addressed. I would try a used ECM from the salvage yard.

Where is the idle control sensor for 2004 Cts Cadillac

There is none.Idle is controlled by your computer. If you have problems, check these. Vacuum lines behind throttle body. You may have to replace your air flow sensor. You can also try this:
Engine cold.
Turn your key to on position for a full minute. Don't start the car.
Turn key off for 10 seconds
Turn key on for 10 seconds. (Don't start)
Turn key off for 10 seconds. Then start the car. Might work but in all probability your main airflow sensor (MAP) is the problem.

Battery voltage is definitely and issue. Charge your battery and have it tested before condemning the starter.

I have an cadillac Cts 2003 with starting problems

the plugs are the problem, they become unable to ignite all the fuel when in idle, so that they get wet and won't give any spark until dry. try to replace them. if there's no difference the problem is at the admission system(fuel pump maybe)

The 2003 Cadillac CTS 3.2 V6 uses a timing belt. GM recommends that you change your timing belt every 60,000 miles.
