I have a 1992 Ford F150 with the 5.0L V8. What is the best way to chance the fuel pump. I have been told removing the bed is the easiest way. But I am running in to trouble with breaking loose the nearly 20 year old bolts. Also, how do I know which tank I have? Advance Auto parts shows a 16 gallon and a 19 gallon pump. Which do I need?

Most likely the sending unit is bad in the fuel tank. The easiest way to get to it is to remove the bed. Taking the tank off is quite a chore. You can unplug the tail light harness and the license plate lights& take the 6 bolts out of the bed and 2 good men can lift the bed off. The fuel tank will be in full view. Take the sending unit out of the tank by unhooking the fuel lines, wiring plug and turn the lock ring counter clockwise and lift the fuel pump and sending unit out of the tank and replace it. Reinstall it and check to see if it is working before you put the bed back on. I hope this is helpful.

The fuel pump is elelctic and it is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to service the fuel pump.

pull the bed off is the easiest way, is there is no bed liner? if there is then u must drop the fuel tank down

To be quite honest, in my past experience,the easiest way to replace it is to remove the bed. Take out the three small bolts inside the fuel door. Unplug the wire harness from the rear bumper area, take out the 6 bolts that hold the bed on. If it's a six foot bed, or even an 7 foot bed, it's pretty easily lifted by 2 people. It can be done on a lift by leaving the bed on. But I've removed somewhere in the area of 10 of these in the last year. Less time consuming to just pull the bed off.

Remove the fuel fil hose,and vent hose,and remove fuel tank straps,with jack supporting tank,lower enough to remove wire connector,and fuel lines .Remove tank from under vehicle,and remove the ring retainer,and pull the fuel pump assem,from tank.Follow instructions in the box with the new fuel pump.

If you are talking about the fuel filler neck or fuel filler hose, the easiest way is to remove the bed by removing the six bolts that attach it to the chassis. also disconnect the light harnesses and lift up your bed. don't forget to first release the fuel filler neck by removing three small screws at the gas filler port. then remove the hose from the tank. it is attached to the tank by a clamp. I just did two of them and it is fairly simple. It should take you about three hours if you have all the tools.

usually the easiest way is to if you have some friends come over and help you remove the bed (usually held on by 8 bolts, also dont forget to remove the bolts holding the fuel filler neck to the side of the truck bed, and trace the tailight harness from the taillights to the frame and there is a connector to unhook the them from the body) then you will have access right to the top of the fuel tank, this is also a lot easier if you have a full tank of gas

First check the fuel pump fuse in the fuse panel to make sure its not blown. Chances are that it is the fuel pump, that is a common problem with chevy trucks. The easiest way to access the fuel pump is to remove the bed of the truck from the frame. Good luck. dont forget to rate.

well the pump is in the fuel tank and it depends if the tank is full or not if it is its very heavy and you will need a jack and 1 other person to help you there are two fuel lines to unhook and the electrical connector. When replacing it replace the entire fuel pump/sending unit and the electrical harness or you will end up having more problems also spend the extra 15$ and replace the fuel filter
