In-line four-cylinder engine ignition order is: 1-2-4-3 and 1-2-4-2; In-line type 5 hair hijacking ignition order is: 1-2-4-5-3 In-line 6 cylinder engine ignition order is: 1-5-3-6-2-4 or 6-2-4-1-5-3; want to know more auto diagnostic tool
The first thing I would check is fuel pressure. This type of fuel injection requires a minimum fuel pressure in order to operate. If fuel pressure is as little as one psi below minimum the vehicle will not start.
You can try squirting a couple of shots of carb spray into the air snorkel while somebody cranks the engine over. If the engine starts and then dies you now you fpdeffinetely have a fuel issue.
If the engine still won't start check for spark.

There were three different engines for that vehicle in 1996, here are diagrams of the 3.9 liter V-6 engine, and the 5.2 and the 5.9 liter V-8 engines both have the same firing order.
firing order of 8 cyl 1-8- 4-3-6-5-7-2- If you are standing in front of the vehicle looking at the engine.. the cylinder on the front on your right is #1...Drivers side front to rear is 1-3-5-7 Passenger side front to rear is 2-4-6-8 now the cap..#1 on the cap points to #1 cylinder..for example..the 2 towers most forward on the cap are 8 and 1
Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. #1 usualy points to the #1 cylinder
thats front driver side of engine
On the cap. Remove the number 1 spark plug and have someone crank a
little unitl you hear/feel air. The possition of the rotor is where
your number 1 is, go Clockwise to place the wires in the correct order.
