If an O2 sensor fails or provides a bad signal, it's caught by comparing the pre-cat O2 to the post-cat O2 and throws a code.Get confirmed if O2 sensors are connected proper and its not getting warm up after starting the car.
Keep updated.Thanks.
The 2001 Mercedes s600 mounts 4 standard 4 wires oxygen sensor.
The color code of the wiring may change depending on the brand of the sensors mounted. Mercedes mounts by factory Bosch sensors.
Here the original color codes for factory sensors:
SIGNAL : Black
GROUND : Gray
HEATER (Ignition switched +12) : White
HEATER (Gnd) :White
The most important wire for testing purpose is Signal, this determines the sensors' output.
If colors are different, simply found out ground wire with a multimeter, the two heater wires have usually same color code.
If you are re-wiring, the heater contacts can be exchanged, the heater works the same in both ways.
In case the car is mounting a different sensor, here wiring diagram for sensors from different manufacturer. If this satisfies the query, please do not forget to accept the solution.
What do you mean how do they plug them in order?
The 4 wires are connected to the 4 pins connectors going to PCM, there are 4 of them.
The most important wire is SIGNAL, that goes to PCM signal input, connecting to a yellow or yellow/green cable after the connector.
You can track what wire is ground to PCM by reading with test lamp or multimeter.
The two wires for the heater are always same color and does not matter which one you wire to ground.
If you do not understand what I say, then it is probably better asking for live help to someone with training, if you short the sensor you may damage the PCM.
The job is extra easy, I think the detail provided are enough to track the connecting to O2 sensors from either side. Let me know if you need clarifications on any of the point, eventually tell me the colors you have if this are different.
Hi.
I understood that maybe you do not find the 4 pins connector. this is a connector like this:
follow wires from one of the other O2 sensor, they join together when under the hood, before getting to PCM. Disconnect battery before doing the job. They connect to main car computer, that is an expensive and difficult to find part on this car.
As far as I know there are 4 O2 sensors in this model, and all the O2 sensors are wired in the same way. If one of the sensor had already been replaced with an aftermarket spare, then the color of wires to sensor may be different. The sensor still wires in the same way .
Hi.
I see that my answer received bad feedback and was passed to other experts.
I think I wasted at least half an hour in typing all possible color codes with pictures of wires and connectors. I still could not understand what was wrong with the support given.
Well, sorry...after all this is Fixya.
I will try using my time in a better way next time. Following user's requests does not pay.
Good luck with your O2 sensor.
Take care.
Ginko.
Re:"i just blow the cat and put in new o2 sensor
and now my gas pedal dont work ."
Check the EGR valve, air intake sensors vacuum, fuel system and IAC valve. O2 sensors codes DO NOT ALWAYS MEAN THAT THE O2" SENSOR MUST BE REPLACED. Your original problem was elsewhere.
On your request I am out of here. Question will go to a different expert.
Goodbye.
