It will be good to use the one that is used OE in the car which can be sourced from Volvo service dealership.
However if you are thinking of a replacement type there are many that can be sourced from glass fabrication agents, car accessories retails shops.
I would reccommend tthe same type to be used for the fitting to the frame. use this right glue for fixing the gasket tightly.

I have an 1995 Volvo 850 and believe there is engine oil leaking between the engine and transmission. What would be my best course of action

It sounds like the rear oil seal on the oil base pan is leaking......You have to remove the base pan and replace the front and rear oil seal. They just sit in the grouve of the oil pan.You can also try retorqueing the bolts first to see if they came loose over time. Hope this helps.

Blue smoke on startup warm engine

If you have a turbo, a shaft seal may be leaking some oil. Otherwise, the valve seals may be hard or worn enough to pass some oil during 'off' time. As long as it smokes only at startup, there is probably little to worry about until it begins smoking all of the time--then it will be time to replace the leaking seals which can be done without removing the heads. You might try a seal-softener additive in the oil or use 'high mileage' oil which contains seal softener. It also helps loosen sticking rings as well. Hope this helps.

Engin oil leaking past distributer base plate

There is a seal between dist and engine. If distributor is properly tightened and still leaking, replace the seal. Get a manual ...if you do this incorrectly, you will alter ignition timing.

Sounds like rubber seal is leaking, check the rubber seals along the side of the windshield and along the inner door. The seal can be easily replaced or patched with silicon sealeant.
