Unfortanatly it requires radio removal and dismantiling to replace the back lights... difficult job to do if you dont have the correct tools and parts...may want to look into replacing the radio...

Same thing in my vibe went out about 2 weeks after warranty was up.

I don't have an issue pulling the radio out of the dash. Do you know what kind of bulb and what kind of specialty tools I need?

  • Anonymous Oct 11, 2010

what you need to do is dismantle the radio...find the bulb thats burned out and unsolder it from the pc board.....bring it to radio shack and find an equivelent bulb....should be 12v so the size will be the most important factor...it may be a good idea to test the voltage where the old bulb was installed with a multimeter to make sure it is 12 volts.then resolder the bulb to the board and you should be good to go.

I had a similar problem. It'd do a whir/thump routine. There's a motor that opens a door - I think it opens to allow cabin air to recirculate. It would get to the point where it should stop but seemed to "thump" over the stop point. I opened the door and unplugged the motor. Guess, I really didn't fix it. Do like my sister and turn up the radio. Good luck.

2006 vibe radio display light on left side won't light up

I also own a 2004 Pontiac Vibe and our company delivery vehicle is a 2006 Vibe, both have this problem. I had a friend who repairs circuit boards re-solder new bulbs. You need to know what you are doing, the heat from the gun can burn out the new bulbs.
