Hey I recently purchased a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. The drivers side electric lock doesn't work. The lock itself locks if you lock it manualy or via passenger side electric lock. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated thanx for your time

Normally you remove the back seat back, and pull the emergency release. Or a mobile locksmith can get in. If the lock is worn, any similar shape key may work with some jiggling. Also look in the glove box for a release button.

I just found this in your Owner Manual for Cutlass Supreme

Remote Trunk Release (OPTION) Press the yellow trunk release button located under the instrument panel on the driver's side. Your automatic transaxle must be in P (Park). Remember that your trunk can be opened at any time using the lock release. Be sure to lock your doors

and also access into the back.

Trunk Access Panel If you have split rear seats, you may have a trunk access panel for storing long objects like skis. Pull your rear armrest down using the strap. Then pull the latch on the trunk access panel towards you to open the panel. To close the access panel lift the latch.

I really needs checking against the spark plugs you have chosen? .045" is about right for most.

Try in, on, or around the glove box if it's not under the dash on the drivers side.

The most likely cause of that concern would be a broken power or ground wire in the umbilical between the body and the driver's door. The second most likely cause would be a defective master (driver's) window control switch.

Generally, if it is both locks, it can be traced back to something common to both, usually a fuse. Check the fuse for the locks and replace if faulty.

with it being a 1988 model with what I am guessing is factory electric window regulators it is probably burned up motors or locked up because of faulty or leaky seals in the door or on the electric motor itself. with a vehicle of this age the switches may also need to be replaced if they are found to be faulty.
I know nothing about the security system though. sorry.

Replacing Interior Door Handle on an Oldsmobile Ciera

It will be in the fuse panel located Drivers Side Lower Dash behind access Panel,or Drivers Side just under Dash!

It sound like the ratchet is worn and may need replacing, if this can be done? If not approch manufacturer or auto wreker they usually can help. I hope this is of some use.

its the lock-up solenoid that cause the problem driver side trany cover on top cant mist it . good luck pierre
