C3 diesl 2006/7 Firstly car started blowing 20 amp starter fuses. First thing in morning, all was okay. But if the car was parked and restarted later on, before it had totalled cooled off, the 20 amp yellow starter motor fuse would blow. Replaced, the car starts fine and runs perfectly until restarted when hot once again. Yesterday, appeared differently. Starter motor 'clicked' and the fuse did not blow. Second time another 'click' but then on the third attempt it started. I switched it off and tried again expecting a blown fuse but after an initial 'click', and not starting, another turn of the key and the car started and ran okay. This morning the car started fine but i am not confident how it will react to restarting when hot?

SOURCE: chyrsler grand voyager wont start just clicks HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean by bump started? The lights and radio can work, but the battery may be too weak to crank the engine over. The best thing to do would be to drive it to a parts store, where most offer free check of battery and charging system (if you can drive it. If not, 1st remove battery and bring in for testing). The click you hear is classic low battery symptom, although it can be other things. So, 1st get the free test, and post results back here. How old is the battery? (and answer 2 questions!) Thanks

SOURCE: 2002 Sebring LXi Convertible Starter Motor Fuse Blown 2x

Starter solenoid. I don't have the page here but in chiltons a page shows the ignition to fuse to relay to starter and if you look closely it's quite basic. I had same problem with constant fuse blow #8. The solenoid over time wears and sometimes sticks. When it sticks, your system can overload thus burn fuse. I bet you never stalled out while driving, but only when you shut off and start somewhere it's a no go. That's because you're system is already engaged. I had to change starter as solenoid part of it all. I see others suffer this same problem so please share this around. Solenoid can stick for a millisecond.

SOURCE: 2000 Grand Voyager blowing the ignition fuse

Was the old fuel pump bad? It might be worth the cost to replace the ignition switch. The wires to the fuel pump would be a second guess if the old pump was bad and burnt the wires before the fuse went. When you eliminated the fuel pump you also eliminated the wires to the pump and it started. Then you replaced the pump, but not the wires. The ignition switch is the other end of the circuit.

SOURCE: 2002 Sebring Convertible Start/Fuel fuse blows intermittently

HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE AND THE STARTER HAS BEEN THE CULPRIT..HAVE NEVER REPLACED A FUEL PUMP ON ONE OF THESE VEHICLES AT ALL

Testimonial: "I replaced the starter. This job is quite substantial. Also found the nut connecting the cable to the starter coil was not tight. I think it is fixed."

SOURCE: 2004 chrysler sebring GTC convertible,

Your starter is drawing too much current. Recommend you replace the starter. Perhaps you can do it yourself using my tips at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5973094-starter_replace.

Why does starter 20 amp fuse blow when I try to start?

Most starters use 200 to 300 amps when starting a engine so that fuse must protect the starter switch or solenoid either could have a direct short and blow a 20 amp fuse .

1995 dodge intrepid wont start. Battery is fully charge but no power to anything. Car wont start

The alternator would not come into play unless the battery was dead.
Could be corrosion inside one of the battery cables, or a blow maxi fuse for the fuse box. Or a bad ground connection.
You would need to take a meter or test light and check for power at the starter post, and the major fuses.

This 30 amp fuse, If it blows when cranking, it is usually the starter dragging, if it blows by just turning the key on it is usually the fuel pump drawing too many amps.
I hope this helps.

My 1996 chevy barretta the fuel pump wont kick on how do i check to see if the pumps bad or if its something else it was running just fine last nite when i parked it and i went to start it this morning and...

A fuse will blow for 2 reasons . 1) If the device has a Short in the circuit that runs through this fuse. 2) If the device draws more amperage from the power source through the fuse than the fuse will handle. ex. if a fuel pump or starter has a 20 amp fuse and the starter/fuel pump is going bad and draws 30 amps it will blow the fuse. A fuel pump on a 1996 vehicle is located in the fuel tank and is kept cool by the surrounding gas and the gas that flows through it. Overheating a fuel pump is virtually impossible. That being said there is a High probability that replacing the fuel pump and relay will fix this problem. It is quite common for this to occur in the GM vehicle of 1996. When the pump starts to fail, it draws an excessive amount of amperage and would blow the fuse. Hope you find this information useful.
