The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. Turn the key to acc and wait about 10 minuter for the security light to go solid or stop blinking

the previous owner had the same problem with my alero, he had to go get a new security button put in or something like that

My security light isn't blinking even after the 30 min relearn it's just stays red?

Hey jonce17....I had the same problem, and my Alero sat in my driveway for 2 days. I looked online for the solution, and I found out how to bypass the security. After it won't start and the security light is blinking, turn the ignition to the on position. Leave it there till the security light stops blinking and stays on (usually takes 9 to 10 minutes). Then turn ignition to off position and start it like normal. This happens to me about once every couple of months. Hope this helps....

i just bought a 2004 alero...a guy who owns a 2002 told my ..if the security light flashes...turn car off..then turn key ahead till the security light goes solid....should start

It doesn't have to be the security. a dead battery won't let the car crank either. With a security problem the car will crank but not start. The security can be reset if the battery is charged and up. Turn the key on ( do'nt crank ) the security light will stay on if it needs to be reset. If it remains on leave the key on for 15 minutes around then it will go out. turn the key off and then turn it right back on, the security light will be on again. Leave the key on till the light goes out again, then turn it off then turn it back on , wait again when it goes out turnthe key off then right back on then crank the engine and it should start. With a scanner the code will be security neweds to be reset. Thia is all anyone can do to reset the security and it's what you were charged $450 for. Following directions.

if your security light flashing it will not start. you let it flash for 10 to 15 min then it should stop. turn the key off then try to start the car. if it does start you need a ignition lock cylinder

When the vehicles security light is flashing and the car won't start..put the key in the ON position and wait until the security light stops flashing and then turn OFF and then start. this is from a security glitch and it shuts down the gas so car won't start. Good luck!!

TURN KEY ON AND TURN OFF ALL ACCESSORIES,RADIO,A/C,ETC,LOWER DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, MAKE SURE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED,THEN TURN KEY OFF,THEN ON,LEAVE KEY ONN FOR ABOUTH 10 MINUTES UNTIL SECURITY LIGHT IS STEADY ON,
TURN KEY OFF FOR 10 SECONDS AND START THE CAR.
MOST TIME THE KEY SECURITY AND THE MODULE NEED REPROGRAMING,
