My 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee was working fine last night when I parked it. This morning I go to get in it,the key fob to unlock the doors wouldnt work. I tried to crank it and it wont turn over. The gages just go up and down (spraticly)even after I remove the key from the ignition. Any suggestion on what to check?

double posted, and still no report
on all parts door locks.?
you left off locks in this post, why?
does the car drive perfect even at night.?
all other accessories work?
do the inside car door locks work at all doors/. by hand.? inside.
do you only have one FOB , if yes , why?
do you have a fresh FOB battery< yes/no.
change it yet>?
the key dont work or just the fob?????????????
did you try both fobs?
car came with 2 fobs try both. ?
if both fobs fail, bad solenoid, if metal key works.
if metal dont work, the lock is frozen with ICE, got ICE?(hair dryer fixes it)
no ice ?,then lube the lock with graphite, lube. if key fails.
if key dont fail and you get 12v to solenoid, then the solenoid is bad
I just replaced one that had 1/2 power (the guts inside sol were bad)
$100 part. too.
put the key in the drivers door lock it with the key still in the lock unlock it and then pull the key out do this three times that is the factory built in security programing shut off system for jeeps and chrysler
I had same prob with Grand Cherokee - no rhyme nor reason as to when, where or why it wouldn't start. After two new starters the shop finally found a starter wire/cable that was corroded on the inside. Mech' could move it back and forth and it would / would not start. Changed cable six months ago - no problems since. Hope it helps.
goldie try to lock and unlock the passenger door...there are disarm switches in both doors...the drivers side may have failed but the passenger side may still work...if that dont do it you may need a dealer because the module for the remote keyless entry may have faied
