Throttle position sensor could be becoming faulty. Puts out a specific millivolt to be read by computer. If reading is unstable could cause issue. How about fuel filter? Good luck.
What year and model is the truck?.. You say that if you use starting fluid and keep the gas pedal on open throttle the truck stays on?.. that means that at certain point you do get gas in the fuel system. Is it correct?.. otherwise let me know so I can give you more instructions.
