I have a 1995 volvo 940 2.3 non turbo that will not start. I have no spark coming from the coil. all voltage is correct, even got another coil. the engine will spin and once every 10 revolutions it will sputter. new battery, alternator is fine..its getting fuel, all fuses ok. please help, this is our baby.
you were 100% correct on your diagnosis of my car not having spark. It was the crankshaft positioning sensor. I would have spent a lot of wasted time and money locating my problem. I suggest that you look for secondary voltage leaks from the ignition system. Moisture causes dirt to become a pathway for this spark voltage. Look inside all wire connections, for any corrosion. A scope can test this, but typically a home does not have a scope...
May have a faulty air/fuel ratio sensor or o2 sensor, throttle body may need adjusting or have a stretched spring or there may be grime restricting air flow so it's flooding it.
If all else is correct and the wiring to the sensor is correct and undamaged then the sensor has failed. It's not at all uncommon and is fairly cheap. I don't recall exactly where the sensor is located, but it's screwed into the engine block and has a single wire coming from it.
I am a volvo tech and your problem is fuel pressure ralated and i had same problem in 1995 850 turbo and the fuel pump was the problem and a used one is around 35.00
