Computer not grounding the relay. Check ground wires. Possible bad computer. Use a scanner, you might find something else.

sounds alot the the pcm it controls the fuel pump and ign system but the anti theft would keep it from starting because the key has a transponder in it programmed for that vehicle and that would kill all ign if triggered

I have a 1998 Jeep cherokee sport. Was driving today and it died. Now there is no spark and no power to fuel pump. Changed fuel pump today and it won't run. Recently replaced oxygen sensors too

U need to check the crankshaft position sensor. The fuel pump will only have power for 2 seconds I till it sees a crank signal. It' controls the asd relay which turns on your spark and fuel

It sounds like your fuel pump or pump relay died. Have a listen below the driver side passenger door in front of the rear wheel while someone turns the key to the "ON" position. You should hear a muffled whirring noise. If not, then the relay or pump has died.

The relay is located in the engine compartment in a black box in front of the power brake booster. The exact location is posted in your owners manual. Autozone or checker sells them for about $7, That should be your first step before dropping $150 on a pump that you might not need. Besides, replacing the pump requires removing the fuel tank to access the pump , and if the shop says the pump is not getting power, then most likely, it is the relay OR the mini fuse for the relay (Not the fuse on the dash panel)

LOCATION OF RELAY AND MINI FUSE

Good luck.

Sounds more like a fuel pump problem ,but iam often wrong,on the older models i have found the rubber connecting hose inside the tank that connects the pump to the outlet on the fuel gauge unit perishes and the fuel pressure drops giving the symptoms you describe

1998 jeep Cherokee Sport wont start

Sounds like your battery is way down. have it checked/charged and load tested. then have the charging system tested after you get it started.

The vehicle shuts off if you drive 50mph or faster

I would be checking the fuel pump.
Probably an in tank type that also has the fuel gauge sender float attached .Get it tested just in case it is not the pump but the wiring to the pump.
I would also replace the fuel filter to be on the safe side.
Hope this helps

Jeep grand cherokee 1999, automatic, 4litre, petrol. there is fuel in the tank but the engine will not start and the fuel guage is showing empty. anyone know what the problem may be.

the fuel sending unit in the tank needs replacement. check your fuses and relays. this problems sounds electrical not manual. and finally check your fuel pump. this vechile is prone to fuel issues.

Jeep will crank but wont start also fuel guage not working

Will it try to start if you spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body? If so you need to check fuel pressure and if low, power to the fuel pump while cranking, the gauge not working could be a seperate issue. Could it be that the car is out of gas since the gauge doesn't work? Just asking. If so you may just need a sending unit. If you end up needing a fuel pump, you'll get a sender with it. I've never seen a sender and a pump go out at the exact same time, the use two different circuit's. The ECM really doesn't have any thing to do with the fuel gauge on this car.
