SOURCE: need location of thermostat in 98 saturn sl series

Front of the motor, low, in the fitting where the radiator hose goes into the motor; not the one on the drivers side. The fitting is rounded and is held on with two bolts.

SOURCE: Where is the water pump located on a 2000 Saturn

Standing on the passenger side of the car with the hood open looking down into the engine bay you will see the serpentine belt. If you have air conditioning, look directly below the air compressor pulley, the next one down is the water pump. Another easy way to find it is to find the lower radiator hose (again on the passenger side of the engine) and follow it to the engine block, the pulley where the hose meets the block is the water pump (not the pulley, but what the pulley spins is the pump).

I have a 98 saturn sl2. It's running hot. I changed thermostat as wrll as coolant. What else could it be.

Out of box bad replacement thermostat, thermostat is backwards, bad water pump, failing radiator (someone may have used a stop leak or ran it it with straight water causing rust build up), fan isnt working or theres a leak and you don't have enough fluid in it.

Is the timing chain located behind the water pump o a 2005 saturn ion

My Data lab book on timing chain removal and installation makes no mention of removing the water pump so I would suggest that it is not a problem in the chain replacement.

Location of water pump on2001 saturn

Hello: The water pump is located on the back of the engine on the passenger side of the car. You will need a special tool to hold the drive gear for the water pump. Without it the gear and chain that drives the balance shafts will fall out of place. If the balance shafts are out of time the engine will run very rough. You might review a Haynes manual, it may be available at your local library.

98 Saturn Sl2 overheat

If it overheated without being low on coolant the first time you may have a themostat sticking. But I would start with a check of all the hoses for cracks or loose clamps. Also check leakage at the front of the motor from the water pump. It's hidden behind the a/c compressor but you should see splash marks on the hood if it's leaking there. For good info on how to fix it yourself try www.saturnfans.com. There are a lot of good tech tip articles for the S series cars. I lost a water pump pulley at about 90,000 overheated five times getting home. The car now has 230,000 on it and still going strong.
