2004 xc90 shifter sticks sometimes in park and sometimes won't go back into park from drive. You have to jiggle, ram, push back and forth and it will then un-stick. When it does finally unstick it might last a day or two or more, then do it again. Feels like it will break if push on it too hard

SOURCE: moving stick shift from Park

What year? if newer than 90's it has a solenoid that locks out the trans shifter until the brake is depressed (Feds Mandated), check that when this happens the brake lights come on, if not then there is an issue with the brake light switch, otherwise the solenoid may be the problem.

SOURCE: right wheel sticks

you havent stated wheither its a front wheel or a rear wheel ,either way i think you have a sticky caliper and it will need changing or stripping and a new seal fitted as the seal seat corrodes forceing the seal to grab the piston,Now a mechanic will strip and clean and fit a new seal but some dealer mechanics will only fit new as the firm will not allow them to repair as their is no profit in it just a labour charge.

SOURCE: 2005 XC90 shifter is locked - can only shift

check the button that you push in on your shifter. will the shift button not go all the way back into the shifter like normal. can you pull it out toward the dash? be easy when doing so to keep from breaking it. something has broken inside the shifter and allows the button to come out too far. try sticking ur finger in the shifter behind the button and realign the button. the button should go all the way into the shifter when it is aligned. it's only a temporary fix but will get you home.

On 2004 gmc envoy slt pulled in garage dash says in drive council shifter says in park truck won't start truck rolls back and forth shifter button can't push in please help

Since you can push it. It would be the shifter cable(clips broke or just came disconnected) or the bracket holding the cable on either end of it. Most likely at the shifter. I have seen them broke at the transmission. But it was a fault of the person trying to remove it from the bracket.

Gearshift sticks in park 2004 gt mustang 40th annv

Sounds like the interlock is out of adjustment. There is a switch on the brake pedal lever which sends a signal to release the shifter by reading the brake light signal. Often this switch gets hit by the Drivers feet and has either moved or broken. Your shifter will act up if the Ignition switch rod has slipped out of adjustment or if the ignition switch has slipped on its mount on the steering column.

My key gets stuck in the ignition in my 04 Saturn ion when i turn the car off sometimes it comes right out & other times i have to put the car in park & unlock the doors & let it sit for a few...

Try pulling the steering wheel back and forth while trying to take the key out. Or, push forward and back on the shifter while it's in park, while trying to take the key out. This could be the steering wheel lock mechanism.

If you think it needs lubrication, try a LITTLE bit of graphite lubricant. Do NOT use WD-40.

Drove 1 block next street I park for 5 minutes get back in car t it will not turn ignitian to start stays in lock.

Jiggle the shifter a bit and turn your steering wheel back & forth. The ignition might be warning out and the lock pin is sticking, there's a cable that's connected to your shifter (if it's automatic) that locks your ignition from turning, also locks your steering column.
