Are you experiencing any problems with the gearbox? Lots of minor glitches in the computer monitoring system within the car can flag up a fault in various areas. You may find the message resets itself as the car rechecks as it is driven through various drive cycles - or you could disconnect your battery (make sure you have your radio code) for 15 mins to do a ''system reset'' If the fault message reappears or the gearbox behaves strangely - get the fault codes read. hope this helps - good luck.

Not until you have done all the necessary checks. Check that the oil is bright cherry red and not tan. Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal faults. Have the fault codes read to check for transmission faults (TCM ) check oil level. Remove the pan and clean out the filter./ If there is band and clutch pack linings in the filter then you may have to have the box overhauled.. If not adjust the bands and clutch packs . After all the checks are done then and only then should you consider a replacement transmission and only from accredited transmission shops

Transmission wont shift out first gear

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units. Look for a sensor/servo fault. have the transmission pressure test done to eliminate internal problems . Check oil level in transmission.

Transmission problems

first check for engine mount problems as the extra load on down shift may be causing the transmission to jump around. Have a pressure test done to check for pressure problems. Have a fault code reading done to determine any faults in the box control systems.

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

The blinking transmission light is trying to tell you there is a fault in your transmission control system. If the check engine light is on, there may be engine problems causing the transmission problems. The first thing that should be done is to scan your computer network for possible fault codes.

I have a problem with the coolant from the radiator getting into the gearbox and causing the transmission to fail. Is this acommon fault with a C class 200 coupe mercedes

Idont know if it a common fault with a benz, but I assume you know what is wrong .I will tell you anyway and you can do what you will. what is happening is theoil cooler lines from the transmission is cracked or broken inside the bottom tank of the radiator,it is no big deal to get the radiator repaired ,but it needs to be done straight away and the transmission needs to be drained and flushed with a new filter installed.if perchancethis has happened before the the repair in the radiator has failed and you need to get a new radiator.
