so maybe I had a similar problem, 1999 solara V6, the car would loose power at times while driving and then it would be good for the rest of the day. I took it to dealership and they initially charged me $600 for EGR related stuff. Did not fix the problem. I took it back and it took them a week to fix it. The problem they told me was spark plugs. This car needs special platinum spark plugs. I have not had any problem since and it has been a couple of years now. Good luck.

sounds like the coil pack is failing or you could just have water in your fuel.... buy a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze (it sucks up water) and add them to your tank when you fill up.... if that doesn't fix it it is likely the coil pack

Idle Air Control Valve.... it has a small plug and 2 bolts that hold it down close to your intake manifold. real easy to find and replace.
SOURCE: 1998 Chrysler Town Country 3.8L Does it Have Timing Belt Or Chain
your engine does have a timing chain, these are very durable, there is no set maintenence interval for them. you can tell how much chain slack you have by gabbing your crankshaft pulley with both hands and rotating it back and forth to feel the chain tightening, it should be a minimul amount of rotation. you should get well over 200k mi. of service without worry. i hope this answers your questions, or at least sets your mind at ease.

we actually found the problem and it was the tcm module. once replaced we have been fine. PROBLEM was the idiot who sold me a tcm sold me a tcm selenoid and suggested the computer and the selnoid were the same thing. My fault for believing him. Once we looked into the issue further and found the computer online we realized they looked nothing alike and were not replaced the same way so.. shame on me
