This happened to me when a fuse shorted due to moisture. The selector is electronic. Replace the correct fuse and you should be good to go.

Are you break lights not working? check the break switch on the brake pedal, it also activates a safety pin that allows your shifter to move freely

Don't run premium fuel (lights harder) Light weight oil like 5- 20 synthetic helps some, however,an engine heater would be best, simple to install, keeps everything warm, heater gets hot in seconds, engine life is prolonged.

  • Neutral safety switch sends a signal to the on-board computer to allow the engine to start and to engage the transmission
  • When not replaced, vehicle may experience no start and/or transmission will not shift out of park. Here's a link to the part.

My 1996 landrover discovery is smoking when I am in park but once in drive there is no smoke. The smoke is white. What could be the problem?

When was the last time that you change the engine oil? Sometimes it does that whe you have an excess of oil, check the level. But definitve white smoke means oil being burnt in the engine, you only see it in park because the smoke doesn't disperse like in motion.

My 1999 Landrover discovery 1 will not get out of Park

I would check to see if your brake lights work, if they don't then replace the brake light switch. It also releases the vehicles neutral safety switch. Hope this helps out.

Best of luck
