Replaced a 1997 328i steering colum with another from an automatic trans car that was a year or so newer--(this one is a manual)--everything fit fine until we noticed the ignition switch on the original colum had a pair of wires attatched to the outer part of the tumbler and the replacement colum does not..evidently this collar is part of a security or alarm/theft deterrent system??..and we cant get the car to crank using the key,and leaving the ignition on and jumping the solenoid only gets it cranking, but no spark.. MUST we get the exact colum and year,or can we get around this collar thing somehow and get this car OFF THE LIFT!.????...customer is not rich,so we tried saving by using a salvage yard colum..his original colum was locking up inside and the ignition key would spin in circles without catching and working,it also had turn signal switch and wiper switch issues,,so we decided to swap the whole colum out..

also the chip out of the original key from the old lock ,forgot to post that sorry do apologise ,or tapè the chip to the transponder so the customer can have a spare key cut without have to pay a fortune ,or just do it and give the customer two keys and you will be in his good books forever .best of british

Removal of ignitionlock cylinder on colume 1997 Topkick

You have to first pull the steering wheel. Then pull the lock plate and move the turn signal switch out of the way. There you will find one bolt that holds the lock cylinder into the column. Here is a good video for it.

93 s10 rattle/rotational grinding noise while stopped or accelerating close to the sound of a bearing that is bad. The rattle can be felt if you grap the steering column. Replaced power steering pump

Automatic or manual trans? Manual trans could be throwout bearing. Other moving parts at idle that have bearings - alternator, a/c compressor, water pump. Auto parts store or harbor freight sells stethoscope to listen to stuff like that. Use it to determine where sound comes from. Careful when using near moving parts.

Steering column squeeks when we turn the steering wheel. It makes me think the power steering is not working. But I believe the steering column needs a bearing replaced just under the steering wheel....

My parents have the same problem, its something to do with the steering colum itself, not with the power steering unit.

It is quite annoying though..

I need to replace my engine in my 95 nissan altima and I want to know what's the latest model engine I can replace it with . Maybe a 2000 nissan altima engine

93-2001 are the same if your talking about the 2.4 liter dual cam motor. Some of the sensers are different as you might need to use the old ones but they'll fit right in. 02 changes to 2.5 and nothing works and the 6 won't fit either. If your manual trans yu need one that's for a manual as the crank is different but the manual engine will go in the automatic, ou'll need to use all the sensers from the old engine or new ones for the old engine as the different model years the computer is set differnt. ( some may work). Check the parts s guy if their the same for both you'll be fine. Don't froget to fix the reason the old motor failed ( bad raditor timing belt coolant senser, exhaust restriction) or your newer motor may fail too.

How do you adjust a neutral safety switch

With automatic trans. I think that it is in the steering colum.Wouldn't think there would be a adjustment. You may want to adjust your gear selecter linkadge that is back on the drivers side firewall. You can check the proper alignment by making sure that drive is centered in "D" when your trans kicks in.Well hope this helps.

1990 c1500

Yes, it will fit.Years that fit are 89 to 94.Appearance may be different it steering wheel between a chev or gmc,but wiring should be a exact fit.Other differences in columns are column shift(auto)w/tilt or w/out tilt wheel or floor shift(standard)w/tilt or w/out.
